The Ford Maverick is coming back! As a Truck...kinda!

If they had tagged Ranchero onto this dump I would have been much more pissed.

I am ridiculously sick and tired of brands cashing out brand equity on former names to throw them on new vehicles/designs. It’s lazy. Just come up with new names. Surely that can’t be too hard for Marketing?

With the domestic makers going to no sedans anymore I’m pretty sure we will see more shared crossover unibodies with weird sheet metal getting old sedan names. It’s dumb.

Was at the Ford Dealer this morning for an oil change.

THEY WERE COMPLETELY SOLD OUT OF NEW INVENTORY, with only a few exceptions.

Not sure how Ford is going to "roll it out" by June 8th.

Isn't the 8th when they debut it? The chip shortage seems to have hit the auto industry hard

Probably, but wouldn't the 'roll out' be right behind it?
Not now I'm thinking. Have no idea when the chip shortage will be resolved.

Never liked the original Maverick, even the Grabber. It seemed stuck in the Ford line up for no purpose and it wasn't sexy like a Mustang.

I think it was to give people a choice.
Not everyone liked the Mustang, so I'm thinking Ford hedged their bets a little, thinking that those people probably wouldn't be captured, so a car like the Grabber could draw people in. They weren't going to get the sale most likely, unless they had a car like that. Not bad. I had a friend in high school who's mom had a Mercury Comet looked a lot like this...... 302 automatic

Sometimes not. Look how long it took Chevy to get the Camaro back in production. It was being bandied about and passed along between auto mags for a good couple of years. The new Supra wasn't quite as bad but it was still out there for at least a year.
Going on memory which isn't always the best way to go

Yeah, and it took Ford a couple of years to get their shit together enough to "roll out" the Ranger.
So this Maverick is probably the same.

This Maverick rebranding is as bad as the new Blazer or that last GTO.

But I'd like to see one up close, no matter the name.

Wish one of the truck companies would get their shit together and actually put out a mini-truck again, the size of the original Ranger. Maverick ain't it. The "new" ranger is what an F150 used to be 20 years ago. Maverick looks to be slightly smaller than that. Where are the ricer mini trucks? Maybe Toyota will put out a 4x4 version of one, like the old Tacomas that had tiny engines but weighed nothing and were a beast on the trails.

Maverick ain't it.

I think it might be.
The article said it was smaller than the Ranger, so I don't know if it's ultra small or not.

I'd like to see it.
I think they said it was front wheel drive too.

Sounds like a courier vehicle, or parts delivery truck.

If you insist.

Ungainly.

I'd always be embarrassed to be seen in one. Not quite as much as in a PT Cruiser but...

Maverick was the poor man's Mustang, like the Road Runner and Dart were for poor Mopar fans who couldn't get a Charger or Barracuda

Road Runner and Dart were head a tails better than a Maverick.

I'm inclined to agree, as my first car was a Dart with the 318. Man, do I miss that car

The basic Dart had the 318.

But you got a Swinger and it packed the 340 normally. but I think I recall a 383 and even a Hemi in them at some point if only limited edition? Maybe a GTS?

Road Runner packed 383s, 440s and 426s depending on how you optioned them.

Aside from looking funny, the Maverick only had a 302...
