There was an ESPN poster from Oklahoma back in the day who's handle was Lil' Dixie or something like that.

I remember him getting ridden pretty hard for referring to Oklahoma as 'Dixie'.
Yeah, he was a goofball who always claimed Oklahoma was in the Southeast. Truth is, Oklahoma is mostly "Southwest" but it's a strange state. The part of Oklahoma up along the Kansas border (Alfalfa, Major, Woods, etc. counties) is sometimes called Lapland by the Old Timers because they say that is the part of the state where Kansas laps over into Oklahoma. Even Tulsa has a much different vibe than Oklahoma City. A lot of the news in Tulsa is about the local area and some OKC news but a lot of it is Arkansas news and weather reports. Oklahoma was a perfect fit for the Big 8, Big XII and now the SEC. Most OU fans never felt any affinity for the Big 10 and it was always so-so for getting involved with those hippies/commies/Antifa/sophists on the West Coast by joining the Pac 12. The perfect fit was when the Big 12 ran from Lincoln all the way to College Station. But that is history and it's sad to think we've all grown so far apart.

Dude....

Texas/Texas A&M and Nebraska/Oklahoma were Thanksgiving Thursday football back in the day.

Ohio St/Michigan, USC/UCLA, Bama/Auburn had to wait until Saturday.
Actually Auburn vs Alabama was played on the Friday after Thanksgiving for years. That is really what put the game on the map because they had the date to themselves and all the men watched while the women shopped.

The entire male population of the US was watching!

Did they act as if we didn't witness summer of '20? Could've sworn they dragged Nebraska for wanting to play a season

Somebody help me out, but why would programs like South Carolina, Tennessee, and Arkansas vote yes to those two schools joining?

The big dogs I can see because they will always be good regardless and it's more TV money.

The doormats like Vandy I can see, because what's the difference?

But the middle of the pack schools will find it that harder to win games and compete for the playoff, and they may slip, and lose fans and recruits.

Spent a lot of time in OKC before I retired.

I always considered Oklahoma a Great Plains state.

If anyone's looking for a fight then call Nebraska the "Midwest".

Will those two bump the B1G payouts into the $75-80/year range like is anticipated in the SEC?

Of course not. Which is why the Big Ten isn't going to add Kansas or Iowa State

Admit it guys. This is just a long con to lure Arkansas and A&M back to re-form the SWC.

Because football, Basketball, and baseball pay the athletic dept's bills.

They'll all get pay raises they can upgrade their facilities with and fund the sports that operate in the red because the only people buying tickets to watch them are family members.

We hired Todd Monken and the offense, especially the pass game really took off after they finally let JT Daniels play. Really, this is probably UGA’s best chance at a natty for the next few years at least. A loaded front 7, and tons of weapons for a difference maker at QB. But we’ll never beat Bama
Maybe the Aggies win the west and you don't have to deal with Saban! :noidea:

Seriously? I'd doubt it. I think the SEC will continue to reign as the highest payouts conference for the foreseeable future. B1G will be second.

The other conferences will probably struggle to KEEP what they are already getting.

But who knows?? We are in CRAZY times! :noidea:

Here is the problem with Texas, in the B1G. Who would they play that is a regional rival for Texas to play? In the SEC, they have Arkansas, LSU, Texas A&M, and Missouri which are all intriguing and close matchup teams to play along with Oklahoma. There is just more regional rivals/foes for Texas in the SEC.

Agreed. However schools like Arkansas and Tennessee have potential. With the right coaching, players, etc. these programs can come back and win at the high level again. Arkansas had a nice run under Bobby Petrino winning 10-11 games a season and competing in the top ten. They were only stopped by Alabama from winning the West. Tennessee had its run through the 1990s and early 2000s where it was a top tier program and they are still ranked in top 10-15 all-time college football programs. Just because they are bad now, doesn't mean they were always good. Alabama and Oklahoma had some bad years in the 1990s so they won't always be on top.

Goldbug's right though. When I travel through the Southeastern part of Oklahoma I get the feeling of a Deliverance type movie!

But, deep East Texas is also more like Louisiana than the rest of Texas IMO. (Some say West Texas is more like New Mexico and Arizona so there's that.)

TV networks are bottomless pits full of money. Lol at the millions being thrown around
Yeah, it looks like they frequently buy a pig in a poke to me. But, they keep offering it so they must be making a ton from it.
