Hurricane Ida

She is moving damn slow. What a mess.
That’s actually the worse because it just dumps more and more water making everything that much more difficult. It will rise the water table where even a small shower will cause additional flooding for weeks after.

Exactly. It’s one thing to get shelled by the wind….another to also get the immediate and lingering flood threats.

Grand Isle recorded a gust of 167 mph today
New Orleans is completely out of power tonight. They whole city.

The morning after Katrina is felt like the worst had past, at least to a non local. But it hadn’t. I hope to hell tomorrow morning the worst has truly past.

Total LA disaster. This thing is creeping along the eye is just now at the southwest tip of MS. We’re getting maybe 10-15 mph wind in Jackson area now.

Thankfully winds are way down. But forward speed is only 8mph. Flooding is going to be insanity.

Once again, if I didn't have a TV or Internet, I'd never know there was a hurricane raging one state over.

It's hot and dry for us but I'm not complaining.

Man, no power for a while

THAT'S gonna hurt...

They say... "An official in Jefferson Parish says a transmission tower that provides power for New Orleans and the east bank of the parish has collapsed into the river near Bridge City. According to the parish’s Emergency Management Director, cables strung across the Mississippi River are now in the water, but darkness is hampering visibility."

That’s not good at all. I had imagined cables being down off an intact tower.

I read there were 8 such high capacity lines running into the city and all 8 went down. Not sure if the other 7 are this bad….but it’s bad.

When we do lose power from a storm here the line men that come in from all over are literal hero’s to us. Last Hurricane I saw line trucks from KY or TN heading down the turnpike and….I won’t lie….something got in my eye.

That might sound totally first world spoiled to some, but this time of year and after a big wet storm the heat and humidity is doubly brutal.

Yeah, that shit's no fun. We have a small generator that lets us run the fridge and freezer and such, but it's not big enough to power everything in the house, and the panel that was installed when they built the house isn't large enough to put a transfer switch in anyway, so I can't run my central air when the power quits. We were down for about a week in early August last year, so we were basically staying in my parents' house until the power came back on. Not shit compared to this, for sure.

Last winter our electricity was out for 14 days.
I thought that was as terrible as it gets.

What are these guys looking at, maybe months??

Just want to shout out to everyone in the wake of ida. Keep treading water.

I can’t see that. Maybe 4-6 weeks for a small percentage. But they will need to get at least some power in there ASAP. Apparently all sewage pumps are out right now too.

gross dumb and dumber GIF

Georgia Power and Alabama Power were turned away from helping with Hurricane Sandy relief because they weren’t union.

But a generator was one of my first purchases after moving out of my parents house. Never lived anywhere that a hookup to city/county water, always had well water, so no power also means no water

He's probably having to make irrational statements and call people names for no reason to their face and in person now, with no electricity.

Just hope he didn't have to use a ladder to climb on top of his roof.
