I think I get where
@Illustrious Potentate is coming from. I comprehend vocals first and foremost as a musical instrument. The actual lyrics themselves or message behind the lyrics is often thoroughly irrelevant to my positive or negative affinity for the song. I've had friends and family get frustrated at me for liking songs and ignoring the lyrics/message.
Two recent examples of people questioning me about my affinity for songs are "Creep Fast" by Twista and "Reise, Reise" by Rammstein. Twista spits his lyrics so fast that you can barely understand a word he says, but he does it with such spectacular rhythm and precision that it sounds kinda like he is shredding a violin. It's awesome! I don't speak or understand hardly any German, but I requested that "Reise, Reise" be played at a recent party and got chastised for requesting a song I had no idea what they're saying. I don't give a fuck, the song is powerful and groovy.
