Astroworld Festival tragedy

I still listen to both. My first taste of Jason Isbell as a solo artist was when he did a post game concert at the new Braves stadium in 2017. Jim Johnson blew a 3 run save chance that night
I started listening to them when he was in, then faded out after he left.

Like both.

that surprises me based on your political leanings
I have always separated music and politics. Bob Dylan and Kris Kristofferson are probably in my all time top 5 too. Good music is good music

even though their last few albums have been very heavy on the politics?

I feel like their last non political one was English Oceans

Not a vocals guy eh?

After I went to a Dylan show almost 20 years and he just sat there, pissed people had came. I’ve been done with him.

Enjoy people covering his songs still though. But he can fuck right off.

If the music is good, I don’t care.

The singing voice is the least important part of the song to me. He’s 80, so the only reason I’d go see him now is just to say I’ve seen him(though Merle Haggard put on a great show when he was 78)

lyrics are part of the music...
I think I get where @Illustrious Potentate is coming from. I comprehend vocals first and foremost as a musical instrument. The actual lyrics themselves or message behind the lyrics is often thoroughly irrelevant to my positive or negative affinity for the song. I've had friends and family get frustrated at me for liking songs and ignoring the lyrics/message.

Two recent examples of people questioning me about my affinity for songs are "Creep Fast" by Twista and "Reise, Reise" by Rammstein. Twista spits his lyrics so fast that you can barely understand a word he says, but he does it with such spectacular rhythm and precision that it sounds kinda like he is shredding a violin. It's awesome! I don't speak or understand hardly any German, but I requested that "Reise, Reise" be played at a recent party and got chastised for requesting a song I had no idea what they're saying. I don't give a fuck, the song is powerful and groovy.

I had a girl ask me if I preferred the beat and rhythm or music or the lyrics...I thought it was an interesting question...

It depends entirely on the style. If it’s heavy metal or bluegrass, lyrics don’t matter at all, but nobody is listening to Bob Dylan for the beat

I disagree

you could 100% listen to Dylan for the music. While he is a great singer-songwriter, there is still something to say for the music being played.

and I am sure the opposite can be said for metal or bluegrass.

I've been kinda curious how common/rare it is that a person comprehends vocals predominantly as a musical musical instrument and only vaguely pays any attention to the spoken words/message. I've also been curious to know if it correlates in any way to they types of music those types of people prefer.

I consider myself a big lyrics guy, but I don't need them. I listen to a shitload of jazz without singing.

ehhh yeah, but, phish fans are a breed unto themselves
I don’t know…as breeding goes parrotheads can be on the same level imo.
