seems like Napier to FL is a done deal
me.. take it to the bank.Source?
me.. take it to the bank.
I don’t think Saban would leave without having his successor already on staff. It should be interesting to see what shakes out of the SEC with all these new hires in the next few years.
Watch Saban retire at the end of the season after winning another Championship. (Sorry Georgia!)
I don't think Saban would give a shit who they hire after him.I don’t think Saban would leave without having his successor already on staff.
well, it's not Napier.. so it's Aranda or Campbell.. Campbell is a shit recruiter, so it may work out better for him in BR, since he'll fall backwards into the state's best.![]()
LSU Football Coach Search Down To 3: Baylor's Dave Aranda, Louisiana's Billy Napier and Iowa State's Matt Campbell
BATON ROUGE -- The LSU football coaching search is down to three candidates, and a new coach could be named by "the end of this week" or early next week,www.outkick.com
Aranda
Napier
Campbell
All would be a huge improvement over who they've had since Saban. I still don't completely buy that Tucker is out but that beat down by Ohio State might have killed his stock.
LSU should run Napier’s value up as much as possible and then hire Aranda. Make Florida pay big bucks.well, it's not Napier.. so it's Aranda or Campbell.. Campbell is a shit recruiter, so it may work out better for him in BR, since he'll fall backwards into the state's best.
Aranda has been there and is familiar.. I personally think he's better than Campbell.
I’m surprised Mark Stoops isn’t getting more looks as he has grossly over achieved at KY.well, it's not Napier.. so it's Aranda or Campbell.. Campbell is a shit recruiter, so it may work out better for him in BR, since he'll fall backwards into the state's best.

I'd take him over CampbellI’m surprised Mark Stoops isn’t getting more looks as he has grossly over achieved at KY.
I’d take either over Sark.I'd take him over Campbell

For the record I’d be happy with Campbell. What he has done at ISU has been impressive and he is the best coach they’ve had that I can ever remember.
I’m reading the same.seems like Napier to FL is a done deal
From O and D coordinators to G5 HC's who make the step up, they're all a gamble. However, someone needs to take the risk on guys like Fickell and Napier no different than they did Urbs.I’m reading the same.
this type of hire worked out with Urban Meyer. Not so much with Mcelwain.
probably a safer move than Kiffen.
I think that is 1/2 of it. I think the other half is recruiting. Urbs had top recruits at Florida and Ohio State. Superior coaching will win out when talent levels are close to the same. Hell, good coaches can win with inferior talent until that gap gets too large. From O and D coordinators to G5 HC's who make the step up, they're all a gamble. Guys like Frost and Neal Brown were hot at the G5 level, but struggle at their P5's. Maybe they just need more time or the added pressure is just too much for them. Who knows?
I think a lot of it has to do with who they surround themselves with as assistants. They want their G5 buddies who got them there to reap the benefits as well instead of leaving them behind and surrounding themselves with experienced P5 guys. See Frost with
Walters (OC), Verduzco (QB's), Austin (OL), and Held (RB's). All followed him from UCF and the offense has never gotten to the P5 level.
Nebraska's offense under Frost has been criticized for 'beating itself' with penalties and turnovers. Well penalties and turnovers happen because you're getting beat. Getting beat leads to the false starts and holding.
When things aren't going well, the HC doesn't want to see his long time buddy and their family in the unemployment line. The result is the HC himself being sent to the unemployment line.
IMO the AD's doing the hiring of these G5 coaches need to be more involved in the vetting of their assistants. Appoint analysts or whatever. Surrounding a newb with newbs is likely where the failure begins.
Being forced to finally fire his buddies is typically too late because you're now bringing in new faces and it's a perpetual cycle of inconsistency.
