2022 Season Thread

Byron did force Nascar's hand, but one thing is for sure, Hamlin won't be winning the title, and as far as I'm concerned, that's awesome. As long as he nor Logano win it, I'll be happy.
It would take an epic choke job for Chase Elliott to not win the real title regardless of happens in their gimmick system

NASCAR with a 25 point penalty to the 24.

Spinning someone under caution, you had to figure that NASCAR had to do something about it, but if I'm being honest I'm surprised they actually did. It's the right move. I'm 100% for "boys have at it"....but wrecking folks under caution can't happen. Kyle Busch got parked for it years back when he did it to Hornaday. How they missed this DURING the race is laughable.
Hamlin had it coming. Wouldn’t they prefer they settle it under caution than for that to be another caution?

It’s either boys have at it or it’s back to the days of lap penalties for rough driving. There’s no room for middle ground

Of course there's room for middle ground. Wrecking people under caution is and has always been the "no-go zone". Even under "boys have at it", that's over the red line. Settle it on the track, or settle it like men between the haulers after the race. Under caution you've got a lot of drivers checking shit, talking on the radio to their team, etc and not looking out for careening cars from morons settling disputes. Nevermind any emergency vehicles that might be out there, pace car, etc.

Don't give me this "no room for middle ground". It's common fkn sense, and it's been this way forever. You want to settle your dispute by wrecking someone under the caution flag, you're going to pay the stiffest penalties. And that should not change.

I get the feeling that NASCAR just isn't the motor racing series for you, bud. Why do you even bother keeping up with it? You seem to hate everything about it. I know you really, really miss the days when the Champion was declared with several races left in the season...but the vast majority of us are glad those days are gone. The drivers are glad too, they fought for the current system.

Hasn’t always been this way. Ambrose got to keep the lead when he dumped Robby Gordon under caution. Don’t remember a stiff penalty for Harvick and Kenseth when they took turns spinning each other out under caution. A slow spin through the grass at lower speed is safer than sending one of the leaders spinning in front of the field at race speed. You’re right. It is common sense

I love the racing(for the most part). Their stupid championship format is a gimmick that the rest of the racing world rightfully looks down on. There’s only been one title clinched with more than two races to go in the modern era, and it was back before a full race had ever been televised live.

I watch for the racing. I don’t acknowledge who is crowned champion under their Mickey Mouse gimmick

You get that a lot with these new improved cars.

Unreliable parts, Goodyear can’t make a tire that works with them and drivers are getting hurt in crashes.

They will improve them over time, and in races where the tires hold up, the racing has been improved from last season, but it’s been a rocky first season for the next gen cars.

If Bowman won more, I’d probably hate him about as much as I hate Hamlin. I just can’t with that ridiculous voice matched with that goofy looking head and an unearned seat

Apparently I missed it, but what Ty Gibbs did on pit road was far worse than anything that happened on track. That could have easily killed crew members or officials on pit road.

I watched vid of his crash and it looked pretty soft.

Agreed 100%. He was penalized, but I forget the penalty. Whatever it was, it wasn't enough.

Didn’t look hard enough to cause a concussion. I want to blame the composite bodies, but they’ve been running them in the Busch Series for a while. The cars are designed to be affordable, but they’re gonna have to get something figured out before a driver that matters gets hurt

A fine his grandpa will pay and a points penalty for a series he’s not even eligible for points.

IMO something like that should be the driver getting parked for a full weekend. Or at the very least the race he’s actually running for a title in. Remember when Harvick and Busch had to miss Cup races for incidents in the Truck Series?

But somebody is gonna have bust Gibbs’s ass for him to ever really learn. He’s very talented, but he’s a big time spoiled brat.

Yup...and earned for each. Not entirely sure how this was any different. I seriously look forward to the day - with GREAT anticipation - when he finally gets his ass whooped between the haulers after a race.

I find myself in an odd place with Joe Gibbs. I really like the dude. Joe is a good guy. He was a great coach in the NFL, and he seems like a genuinely decent, stand-up dude. So why do I find that I despise every single driver connected to him in any way? Heck, even Truex...I liked Truex decent enough before he went to Gibbs. His run in the 78 was pretty cool. But then, lo and behold, he starts driving for JGR and he turns into a babyback little b*tch. Don't get me started on Hamlin and Busch. Bell is ok, I guess? Ty is a pipsqueak little punk. I don't know...it's a weird thing.

Gibbs was hands down my second favorite team back when it was just Stewart and Labonte.

Stewart was my second favorite driver his entire career. Second to Dale Sr his first two seasons and then second to Harvick.

But I haven’t liked any of his drivers since Stewart left.

I guess I’m forced to pull for Kyle Busch now that he’s going to RCR, but I’ve hated him his entire career until now and Hamlin is hands down my least favorite driver. I can tolerate Truex and Bell doesn’t really register either way for me.

He’ll cross the wrong driver one of these days and he’ll get it. They all eventually get some sense knocked into them

If it looked soft, then that force is going to the driver, not the car, hence the concussion. One of the issues they've had with the car, which they had back in testing but trotted it out anyway, was the forces don't really distribute well enough through the frame. With some of the decisions they made going with pre-made clips and sub-assemblies that attach to the frame and some frame geometry decisions, they've lost rigidity. You need that to disperse the impact away from the driver. But its too late now. The adjustments will come this offseason. The frame geometry will be altered and some of the paneling and components will be more deformable.

Chase owes that W to Jones.
