GAME 2023 NFL Draft Thread

I just don't want to see the city/state start out with a grudge against the kid because of who he isn't rather than evaluating who he is, especially since I think that "who he is" seems pretty fucking special :thumb:
And also keep in mind that the local fans have seen the Braves and UGA put together great teams recently, and the Falcons are the black sheep in the state that can never seem to do anything right. Between the screwups in last years draft, watching the team blow numerous 4th quarter leads because the defense can’t get off the field, and see the QB have a defender in his face everytime he drops back, and then drafting a RB at 8 when the rush offense was near the top of the league is gonna leave some people frustrated. It’s not because we think Robinson will be a bust or won’t support him, it’s because a very flawed team didn’t do anything to address any of their flaws with a top 10 pick. They added to one of the few strengths they had. It’s not a dig at Robinson as player at all.

Jahmyr Gibbs is a tremendous talent, but he plays the wrong position to be selecting him in the 1st round. Unless you are drafting a bell cow, 3 down RB -- no team should be spending a top 20 pick on a RB and they haven't in the last 5 years.

Bijan is that bell cow, 3 down RB. Gibbs is not. Gibbs is exactly the type of RB we have already in Swift. When you add in Detroit spending 18 million on David Montgomery -- the Gibbs pick makes no sense, unless they plan to use him as a slot receiver instead of RB.
yeah, outside of one person here, i think everyone agrees it was a dumb pick.

I'm a die hard Lions fan. I've had season tickets for 10+ years. I'm 100% all in on Brad Holmes as our GM and his eye for talent as he has found talent all over the draft in his 2 years. Amon Ra St Brown in the 4th round. Malcolm Rodriguez in the 6th round. James Houston 6th round. Kirby Joseph 3rd round. Derrick Barnes in the 4th. Hell -- his draft picks last year alone has 21 sacks on the year.

I simply can't get behind a change of pace RB in the 1st round of the draft. It is a waste of high end draft capital.

i think everyone is on the same page. gonna be a fine player, but a waste of draft capital. same with the LB. granted, i don't know anything about him, but thought he was going to be a mid 2nd rounder. should be a fine player as well, but i guess as an eagles fan i'm biased in OL/DL is the biggest priority to fill and you can find talent at RB and LB later on. That said, eagles haven't had a great LB in as long as I can remember.

Lions will likely win their division now that they are killing it in the draft last couple of years.

Campbell is 6'5" 250. He had the fastest 3 cone time for any LB, had the 2nd highest vertical, won the Butkus Award as the best LB in college last year and ran a 4.6.

I can get past the Campbell pick, as he is more of a system/coach fit player. I HATE drafting a MLB that early, as they can be had throughout. Our starting MLB last year was our 6th round pick last year and he played great for us. Malcolm Rodriguez. But the MLB we drafted is the epitome of the type of player who fits the culture Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes are building.

F that RB pick though :pound:

Campbell’s athletic traits place him in rare company. His 6-foot-5, 248-pound frame and stellar performances at the NFL Scouting Combine resulted in a 9.98 Relative Athletic Score. RAS lists Pittsburgh Steelers All-Pro T.J. Watt as Campbell’s top athletic comp.

Here is who they compared Campbell to -- 9.98 in RAS is off the charts for a MLB. That's why I am ok with him.

Hard to believe this is a sports message board sometimes with all the casuals and poors around here.

Gibbs is exactly the type of RB we have already in Swift.

But healthy, and better and faster and a better receiver. Which is the whole point since the Lions made it clear last year that they were moving on from Swift this year.

Montgomery replaced Williams. Gibbs replaces Swift.

Two upgrades.

no, that's what makes it a sports message board. especially delusional poors like you thinking you know sports.

how dare you call him a poor! He has gourmet pizza and is going to see Taylor Swift! He's unpoor!

You noobs would learn more by posting less and reading more. I understand my own team, it’s players and when their contract are up - like Swift who was obviously not getting a new deal next year. Any pick we get for him now is a bonus.

Just like Okudah.

Very true. Thank you.

T Swift is still a thing? talk about overpaying for a mediocre talent, good deal.

I'm not sure Monty is an upgrade over Williams.

I'd love to get on board with you, but to take a change of pace RB with pick 12 is asinine. Gibbs is not a guy you are going to give the ball to 20-25 times a game. He isn't going to be the guy you have in the backfield when you need someone to pick up a blitz. When they get in the red zone -- they aren't going to be handing the ball off to Gibbs.

The ONLY RB worth taking in the 1st round is a bell cow RB who isn't leaving the field. That is Bijan Robinson. You could draft someone to fill Gibbs role with a mid round pick.

On top of that -- If you draft an elite CB, DE, DT, etc. -- It is a game changer for a roster, as the cost of a player like that is astronomical in the NFL now. You can sign RB's for pennies to the dollar what you can on the premier positions.

Feelings aside, I’m just explaining why they did it. Swift is gone.

It is a big upgrade. It is why Williams was given much less money in New Orleans. Williams is a short yardage type back. He scored so much because he was giving the ball exclusively in the red zone and had like a dozen 1 or 2 yard scores.

Montgomery ran behind one of the worst OL's in the NFL. He will have a career year running behind Detroit's OL.

RB seems pretty weak this year. I wouldn't take any of the remaining guys until the 3rd round. I'm sure some team will reach on one though and it will start a run of a few of them.

Bijan & Gibbs were the clear 1/2. They still both got take too early though.
