2024 Recruiting Thread

Insiders often hear what they want to hear I think. Every teams insiders often has something different to say.

I've been reading for weeks from ours that we were leading for him and he had been our #1 RB target all along.
First, these kids can change on a dime. I am hesitant to criticize anyone for being wrong.

But there are insiders, and there are insiders. The least trustworthy are the new Twitter bread of "insiders." They are trying to build a brand, and they often rip off paid-for sites. They tend to be young, so they really are limited in their connections.

The next level of insiders are the staff on what @Thiefery calls the $9.95ers. They tend to be more fan oriented, and have an interest in putting out news for their subscribers. That said, these guys mostly have been around a long time, have way better sources than the Twitter guys, and are fairly accurate.

The best insiders, and I've only seen these for UGA on Rivals, are the ones that clearly are within the program. Rivals UGASports.com has about 5 of these guys. You can tell that part of their job is to be on the site to control the craziness. I am on all the Dawg sites, and they are by far the best with inside info. Hell, they have a former UGA coach on their staff. But even these guys get it wrong from time to time because the recruits are fickle as hell.

Even then, I always take the team site guys with a huge grain of salt, especially the ones who are well known to be sunshine pumpers. They have to generate clicks and buzz, that's their job for the site, that's what they get paid for.

It does seem that most upper level teams have 1 main go to guy who you can generally trust though.

yeah i mean the $9.95ers had no reason to let UT fans down, we've known since January that Tashard Choice was all over Gibson.. So the dream of having a RB class of People and Tatum were over.. Staff is all in on Gibson and Clark as RB1 and RB2

I frequent surly who has their own ear within the staff, and we haven't had any updates with People since he wasn't the focus.. so my earlier assumptions were from what I read from the mods of 247 and on3..

We are in on Gibson and Clark. We are hearing that we are leaning toward taking 3 RBS, with one already committed. We need two more.

uh oh is this another UT vs UGA showdown in recruiting?!?!?

Don't know ... RB recruiting is more difficult because they do take multiples, and you have to look at PT, etc. At UGA, a freshman won't start unless we have many injuries, for the most part. Chubb got a lot of PT, but that is because Gurley was out and that was before the "5 RB room" thing became a thing. Smart likes have 5 really good RBs on the roster at any given time. We are losing at least 2 next years, but one of the 5 we have now is coming off an ACL so you never know.

We are in on all the top ones, but not really sure where we stand. Wish we could flip Kameron Davis, but he seems solid to FSU ... a good Albany GA boy ... they go to FSU a lot. Had a good UV with Taylor Tatum last week. Texas boy that is a lean to Michigan, WTF?

Tatum looks to want to play baseball as well as play football. People and Tatum were the two most talked about RBs on UTs board from last year and it seemed like UT built a great relationship with both... until Gibson reciprocated his interest here with Choice and Sark. It's a game of musical chairs

i was wrong.. even our $9.95ers were caught off guard.. I guess oklahoma was the only team he was interested in til tosu came into play and it took a couple weeks and here we are..

Yeah I don't think OU even offered him. He wanted to come here but I think for what ever reason he is down the list of rb wants.

There are eight 5* WRs in the class, we do not have room for all of them. Hudson is safe.

Jeremiah McClellan is likely to be #3

I feel like we have a better shot with Joshisa Trader than Hudson if #4 ends up being a big time guy.

If we get McClellan, we may be done at WR assuming our other two stick. Even with some transfers this spring, we brought in eight WRs in the last two classes that were all 4* or 5* talents. I love having shitloads of great WRs but we have some other areas we need to address way more.

We could be done but it seems like they want 4 WR from what ive seen. Could be a situation though where they'll take 4 but only if the 4th is a big time guy (Trader)

I feel like we need to come up decently big on the Dline this year, last year we whiffed on almost all of our major targets outside of Moore. Larry Johnson's seat might start getting real hot if he totally whiffs again.

DB now is always of concern, it seems like we will probably end up doing just fine this year though. Bryce West is pretty much a lock and I know Michigan thinks they are going to swoop Aaron Scott from us but I think he ends up with us in the end. We are in good position for some bigger out of state guys too like Zabien Brown.

OL we already have 4 guys locked down. Would be nice if we could land another decently higher end guy.

I'm actually sort of bullish on the DL recruits in the 22/23 class. They're obviously buried by upperclassmen/future NFL draft picks, but I love what we've got at edge, and there are some really nice pieces at DT as well, especially with Moore.

West and Scott will be Buckeyes most likely, West for sure. We're in great shape there as well from the past two classes so I'm not concerned. OL looks really solid as well, maybe add one more high end OT but that's about it. Frey is doing a great job cleaning up after dipshit Stud.
