Big Ten Basketball

I'd go 8 for sure with Murray, Nunge and Toussaint. P McCaffrey has had his moments too. But really thats my big question this year. Why are we using Perkins and Uhlis so much at the expense of Toussaint? It's like ever since he missed those fts at Minnesota his minutes go down every game. Obviously I'm not at practice but there's no way Joe T is not a better offensive option than those guys and he led us in steals last year. Its really weird to see Perkins in there instead of him. I dont get it

I'm not as sold on Toussaint. I think he's better than the other two options, but I'm guessing those guys are getting minutes because Toussaint's play hasn't been as good.

what is this thread? i didn't realize the B1G played basketball..

I didn’t realize the big 10 played football..
Like I said before, they do something special in March/April, I'll eat my words.

Bottom line, while I hated the Lickliter schemes and was thrilled to change to Fran's game, it's lost its luster. I like controlled hustle and some defense.

Fwiw, I haven't jumped ship. I don't miss a game if I can help it. I try seeing things realistically and I don't buy all the hype. This is typical Franball.

You sure you are an Iowa fan?? ;)

My opinion is the top 5 teams in the Big Ten conference are about equal. Of course, I haven't seen as much as in normal years. But I've seen plenty of Iowa, and Illinois and Wisconsin. Pretty up and down. Each have their strengths and weaknesses.

I know Ohio State beat a bunch of teams on the road, but the road ain't what the road used to be.

This was a must win game for the Gophers. I see only 1 or 2 more wins after tonight. We sure as hell aren't winning a road game. Most likely wins are NW and Rutgers at home. 7-11 in conference isn't gonna get us in.

Jinx worked like a glove.

Big win for the Gophs.

Very lucky though.

Carr doing stupid shit worked on a bank and we survived. Gonna make the tourney but dont feel good about any chances.

Let's all take the time to LOL at Michigan. Their women's team went out and played last night while their men's team sat at home

Pitino has given Carr green light, sometimes you get Rutgers, sometimes you get Purdue.

And he absolutely should have the green light. We just need him to be smart about it(so we dont need to bank on luck...pun intended).

The series before he just drove the lane and got easily to the rim and fouled. Down 2. No need to take a fade away 3 with still like 20 second on the clock. I think thats been his slight issue recently, not a lot of game and clock awareness.

Worked out yesterday, but its a huge reason we are dropping all these road games. We don't understand the little things(coaching plays a big role).

But the B1G is all about student-athlete safety

Holy fuck ball. Thats some bullshit. Juan Howard saw this and probably threw up thinking about Michigan playing 6 tines in 9 days lol

If Iowa is gonna win 4 games in the tourney they better get a lot better on D. Can’t be one sided and go anywhere.

How many NCAA tourney wins do they have in the last 5-6 years? One?

my guess is if they win 3 games in the tourney they will be lucky.

This

Eventually they run into a team with better athletes.

Every team we've played this year has better athletes lol . Iowa doesn't win with athleticism

I'm aware. Thus the correlation to the tourney record. This is by far the best team Iowa has had in a long stretch and we are talking about a guy with a 8.9 PER being a make or break piece. I know he's key but come on. Hopefully you all don't run into any other injuries I'd like to see Iowa do well in the tourney.

It's not his scoring that's important but if you haven't watched Iowa a lot you likely wouldn't get it.

It's just funny to me when people talk about athleticism in basketball . On the list of important stuff athleticism is not even in the top 5.

The point is in the tourney you have to win 6 straight games. When you're outsized or outgunned from an overall athleticism standpoint your margins are smaller. Iowa has to play a more perfect game than a team that can clamp down and play some D or assert their will a little more with pace etc.

Iowa has never been a great defensive team under Fran. Kind of how Indiana sucked on D with Crean. The latter being a little more scheme related than even Fran probably

Long story short I don't think there has been a worse than 20th defensive rated team win the title in like the last 12 to 15 years. In fact I can't really think of one off the top of my head. I'd guess Butler probably wasn't top 20 but they lost. And they had a bonafide NBA star on their team.

Sure. Iowas size isn't the issue though. They're long and big . They're just not quick and that's OK. I get your point and as I said before it's true generically but every team is different. Iowa doesn't need to be great on D. They need to be ok on D and then be great at what they're capable of being great at . To be clear no one is talking about winning a title . We were talking about a deep run ( E8 or F4 ). Baylor and Gonzaga are clearly the best teams but a healthy Iowa is definitely in the next group. That next group is much bigger this year though. I'd say 6-10 teams . Maybe even 12

To be fair I was pretty much postive Virginia would never win a title and I was wrong on that. Their offense is so prone for upset its ridiculous.

People tend to look at weaknesses and not strengths. As mediocre as Iowas D is their offense is still the best in the country ( including Gonzaga). Any team that is the best in the country on one of the 2 facets of the game has a chance to win 3 or 4 games in the tourney and I can promise you there are a lot if teams in that second group Baylor or Gonzaga would rather play than Iowa because Iowa is one of the only teams in the country capable of having that one great offensive game and beating them
