Dealerships are the fucking worst!

Because I have never spent anything on it before, and its one of the best vehicles I have ever owned. 3400 is less than having car payments
Yep. If it buys you another six months, you’re net ahead. Particularly with the markups on new cars these days.

Do you think you could buy a used lexus for $3400 bucks with less than 240k?

ok. Then sales tax, registration fees and there’s no guarantee that this “new” car won’t need repairs either.

My mom gets free state inspections from a dealership because she bought there.

I've actually noticed dealers are more forthcoming and don't try sneaking in anything other than what you specifically requested.

I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to convince my wife that people outside of the Toyota dealership, can work on Toyotas. She has been taking her Sequoia there for fucking overpriced oil changes for over a decade. Whatever. I'll pay a little extra for her piece of mind.

So we were coming back from Utah, and the steering started getting kind of fucky, and was hard to turn left in spots, sporadically. I knew it wasnt right, and called a couple shops, and made an appt to go see a guy. She decided to take it to the dealership, and had my son take her to work. Tells me after its already there. "I told them to just go through it, and tell me what it needs". I was ready for the worst.

I wasn't even close to where the worst was. These cocksuckers call her, and tell her its going to be over $11,000! She goes into hysterics, and started blabbering about buying a new car, and its not worth keeping, and BLAHbiddy Blah Blah Blah!

I didnt even call the dealership, I just went down there and picked it up. Took it a mile up the road, where I had the appt set up with the original guy I called. He was the only mechanic I called that answered his phone, and had all 5 star reviews. I told him about picking it up from the dealership, and they wanted crazy money to fix it. He nods in obvious agreement, cause you know, everyone fucking knows they're crooks.

He calls me with a quote in about 3 hours, and with everything on the entire front end replaced : Rack and pinion, struts/shocks, power steering lines, grommets/bushings, upper and lower control arms, etc. Everything! $3600.00.

This SUV has 240k miles, and this is the first real chunk of change I ever put into it. I still drive it up to and on top of the mountains in Utah, and have done the brakes, and changed fluids. Had to charge the A/C once.

I just could not believe those assholes at the Toyota though. Eleven thousand dollars is 7k more, than what he did it for. For what? So the service dept can make as much as the retail side? I would imagine those assholes rake in at least as much on the shop end, if idiots are dumb enough to pay for it. Not me, and I think even the wife is now pissed enough to stop wasting money there. She'll waste it somewhere else I'm sure.

I cant be the only one that has been handed a ridiculous quote from a dealership.
Maintenance under warranty only at the dealership.

Oil changes are becoming increasingly unnecessary in modern engines, if you use synthetic and aren't racing them at the track. Even with 240k miles, I doubt you needed more than ~6 oil changes in total.

Don't go to Jiffy Lube though. Those guys will break your car just to "find" things wrong with it.

The are called stealerships for a reason.

My best story was my wife had her 4runner way back in 2002'ish and it was out of factory warranty but she had bought the extended warranty for some stupid reason (I found the reason here in a moment). Her steering went out as well, was hanging up when turning at idle, and I took it back to the same dealership she bought it. They called up with about $7k in repairs it needed. I told them "great, do it since it us under warranty". After a few back and forth about where the extended warranty was filed (by them when she bought it) they found it all and came back saying it just needed a new pump. Oh no, fuck that. You bitches said it needed the entire system so replace the entire system. I had the written estimate and I forced those assclowns to replace everything on that list.

Never went back to Toyota of Grapevine, fuck em. But we got the entire steering system replaced for nothing, so I was happy. That car never needed another thing other than the throttle positioning sensor going out every 20k miles. Best car I ever owned, no idea why I don't keep buying 4runners.

Crooks most of them.

Wife was pregnant with our first child. Got a Ford Escape year or two before getting knocked up and had the bumper to bumper 100k warranty the works. Had it in for a recall for something…. They say “it’s got a steering fluid leak”. Nothing was leaking in the garage but they said to fix it for $100 was the deal. They “fixed it”. Not even a week later she’s driving down the interstate and her power steering goes out. She barely got it on the outer road in the city of Dallas, got it to a parking lot.. I’m calling the dealership screaming at these idiots. They come get it, take it back, say it needs more work.. I’m still yelling. I get a call back a few hours later: “you won’t believe this.” “Try me” I said. “We burnt your wifes car down”. Apparently they caused a bigger leak and when they test drove it the fluid caught on fire on the engine and the thing looked like toast.

so I now have to go into the dealership with my wife and these guys are still playing hard ball. Found an explorer with low miles but they tried to pull a fast one on the interest rate. I walked out and told them I’m calling a lawyer. Got a call in about 20 minutes from the GM and they finally bent them Over.

fuck them and the cable company. Oh and insurance companies.

Just bought a Nissan Titan, and you aren't kidding. But I was able to talk em down to a reasonable price by leveraging two places against each other and inventing a third used option "in Frisco. It's a pro-4x". Got a damn good deal, then made them honor the trade in price that carmax was going to pay me for it.

Deals are still out there, but you have to walk away multiple times.

I just got rid of the Honda but the closest Honda dealer to me is fucking WORTHLESS. They completely missed two locked up rear shocks, told me is was "normal" when I knew it wasn't. Took it to another place and the lead mechanic nearly shit his pants on the test drive when the back end walked out from under us. He took it back and replaced all four shocks for the hassle and it only had about 15k miles on it.
Well when I had a recall I took it to Shitty Honda's of Lewisville and told them don't touch a damn thing on the car except what they needed for the recall. No 100 point inspection or anything, I don't like you all is what I told them. Some slapdick calls me a few hours later with the report of what it needs from the complimentary inspection. I about lost my shit. I went back, found the GM who had caught my wrath when they missed the locked out shocks the first time and read that dude there riot act. I told him the car was perfect when it came in, it better still be perfect. I didn't even get off the lot when I hit the brakes and felt a wobble. Went back in and told him to get the mechanics to pull the wheels off that they clearly over-torqued and turn my rotors to spec. Sure enough one of the front wheels they couldn't even break loose with their impact, had to keep at it until it finally went. They ended up putting new rotors on and I told the GM that is exactly why I told them not to touch my car. Every person up there is an incompetent fuckwad, and he's the worst for hiring them. To his credit he stood there and took it, in front of customers and everyone. God I hate that place. There is one good Honda dealer not near me and one good Nissan dealer near me. The rest can suck it.

The suspension has nothing to do with you're ability to steer it....

Rack and Pinion and Power Steering Pump perhaps....

Did you check your power steering fluid level?

Probably not but when you have that all apart to get to the steering components and they are worn out, might as well replace em. Putting broken/worn parts back on is a no no.

True...but does a rack replace require you to remove the lower and upper control arms?
