Do FSU & Clemson Have A Landing Spot?

Second the slate of games from the P2 is getting pretty numerous so its getting tougher to find spots for them so I'm pretty sure FOX and ESPN are pretty happy where things are to the point ESPN really doesn't want to pay the SEC for a 9th conference game because it would be a scheduling problem for them and very little value.
Texas will tell Sankey that 9 games are a go and you will shut up and take it like the 2nd rate college you are from your very own poor ass state.

Yeah this pretty much says that GOR wasn’t as strong as some people thought

I think it says that the ACC didn't want to spend millions on attorney's, air this out in the public and make their life a living hell. This way they have 5 years to figure out alternatives and get 150mm if both schools bolt.

FOX and ESPN are not going to dictate to the B1G or the SEC who should be in their conference; that just isn't going to happen. They can and will help facilitate the inclusion of teams per the conference's request, but the conferences have to request it.

I don't see things changing that much in the next 5 years in regards to the P2. It will take 5 years for them to figure out their scheduling conflicts as it is.
E$PN is happy now until FOX takes away two tier 1 viewership programs in 2030 ...

Get back in the box Gimp.

Until you actually win the conference I don't want to hear shit out of you.
Until you actually have a .500 SEC record.. You shut up and continue to milk on Bevo's nipples u wanna be tygal

Yeah they gave up an absolute shit ton of millions and the media rights because they didn’t want to pay attorneys…

Both P2s pull the trigger for ND. My bet is one will offer them an ACC type deal except they would be excluded from conference championships and tournaments. They could fill their schedules and get other types of support but their non-football sports have to make a go as independents as well.
Excluding ND from conference championships and tournaments in all sports is Not an ACC type deal AT ALL. It forces their hand (doing this) the most actually. I’m not against it, relegating their OS to independence while they can’t compete for championships in football. Shit that’s good. I still think they’d choose the B1G and be paired with Stanford as additions.

It had a little to do with it, but I agree that wasn't the reason.

As it was now, FSU and Clemson could leave in 2032 once the money got low enough. This accelerates it a few years but gives the ACC certainty.

I don't think that Clemson and FSU leave the ACC:

1. Around 2030-ish, ESPN will see that the prime ACC contract deal they got is ending. They can re-negotiate and give more money if FSU and Clemson will stay.

2. So long as the money is close, FSU and Clemson should stay because they have an easier path to the CFP. Assuming 4/2 AQs, it would be easier for them to get in the top 2 in the ACC than the top 4 in the P2. Also, they won't get full shares for the first several years, so the money may not make a difference.

3. I am unsure if they will have a home in the P2. They have proven to be untrustworthy partners, especially FSU. Clemson handled themselves better. But why risk being pulled into the home cooking in Leon County, Florida? Going scorched earth was not smart. Clemson was smart to key their heads down for the most part. The FSU whiners are pretty much despised by all the CFB fans that I know.

About the only thing we know for sure is that we don't know what CFB will look like in 2030-ish, so who knows.

If either school were to jump right now I'm not sure there is a landing spot for either but especially FSU. The only two spots that improve their current situation are the SEC or B1G and neither is in a hurry to expand again.

Both conferences have had what could only be construed as negative comments about the way FSU has handled themselves. To be completely honest the FSU fanbase is a lot to handle not quite the equivalent of Oregon but a cousin in the same family for sure.

I honestly do not think Sankey wants anything to do with them at this point.

Now package Clemson with UNC and the SEC takes a hard look but UNC would be the target.
UNC was like 80th in TV viewership this year. Plus they can't go without NCSU. SMH.

So much to having an "Ironclad" GOR :noidea:

Yeah this pretty much says that GOR wasn’t as strong as some people thought

Not at all. GOR is still in place, they simply negotiated the cost of it down. Same thing the TX/OU did.

People don't understand that GORs are commonplace legal agreements. They are used in the music industry, and elsewhere. They have been valid for as long as they have been used. They are not some novel legal concept.

If the GOR was not ironclad, you would be out of the ACC today, or sooner than 2030. The exit fees are always negotiated down. You asked out now, not in 5 years. The only thing making that happen is the GOR.

They are an ironclad agreement, but like all agreements they are subject to negotiations.

They'll get a huge jump in viewership this year. Wouldn't surprise me if they were in the top 25 this year.

They also get to take their media rights with them once they pay. That was not the case before. So no, the same GOR is not in place. If it was ironclad, they wouldn't have dropped the exit fee by over half and given them their media rights out of the goodness of their hearts.

Yep. It'll be similar to the bump Prime Time gave Colorado. But old Bill isn't as easy a sell to the hip youngsters.

Is the state of North Carolina going to withhold funding from UNC if they don’t stay in the ACC?

I get the legislature passed something but are we sure that has teeth? If the ACC goes to shit surely the state of North Carolina doesn’t want to see all its public’s school sink to Conference USA type competitive levels.

Duke might have a shot at the B1G and if that were to happen and UNC gets stuck in league with no revenue the power balance shift would be enormous.

If push comes to shove I think UNC gets the green light.

Right now UNC can't leave without NCSU, and it's not controlled by anyone at UNC. It's controlled at a higher level - people who have the entire system's interest in mind, not just UNC.

Sure, I can see them keep UNC in the ACC. It's not like UNC is some huge CFB brand. Whether that changes with Belichek we will see. But they were 80th in TV Viewership. No one in the P2 is going to take an annual $5+ million haircut just to get UNC in.

So the new bill would require the two teams to play ever year, but would they have to be in the same conference? They can do the first part without doing to second part. They didn't do a very good job with their tweet or whatever that is.

From the article:

"The bill doesn’t stipulate that the schools remain in the same conference."

To me that's really the whole reason for this bill. So UNC can go to the SEC without state.

Good
