Do the White Sox win 50 games this season?

Got lost in the shuffle of the start of football season, but they have officially been eliminated from winning 50 games. They still need 7 wins to reach 40
Out of a remaining 16 games, that's a tall order. I think the '62 Mets just became slightly less of a laughing stock.

The 62 Mets were really screwed by the other NL owners. In 61 the Angels and Senators came into the American League, and their expansion draft made more of the league's competitive players available. LAA was in 4th place at some point during the season, and the old NL owners didn't like what they saw. So they modified the expansion draft for the Mets and Houston, making them overpay for crappier players.

Only shot they have is they have a bunch of games left against the A’s and Angels, and not really any games left against teams fighting for a playoff spot, but I still doubt they get there

Yeah I know. It's like in the NHL where the '93 Senators or '75 Capitals where the expansion draft before allowed much more players to be protected than, say, the 2017 draft where the Vegas Golden Knights came into existence. The rules in 1974 were pretty much just, pick 24 guys not protected, whereas the Knights got to pick 1 player from each team, and could even negotiate deals over not taking unprotected players, trading drafted players back and all kinds of assorted shadiness.

I guess it's too much to ask that teams build an organization and struggle as much, starting out. Sucking this badly for an established club like CHW is all the more impressive.

Dunno. The roster reads like a Triple-A team, and not a good one. Believe me, I went to a Nats game a couple weeks ago, wins will be hard to come by, just based on the level of talent available.

They’ve nearly clinched. They’ll be resting players
You think so? These games are starting this weekend, and the rest start next Thursday. I don't think they will have clinched yet

On second thought, they’re still gonna be playing for a bye regardless, but we’ve got 4 games with the Dodgers coming up, so y’all will likely have a few game cushion to work with

I don't think many teams would want to face the Mets' pitching in the playoffs, but they've got to get there first. Still waiting for them to break hearts, again

7 games coming up with your Phillies will probably end their playoff hopes
Not sure about that. Phillies have been winning a lot of games again after their six week long slide, but haven't looked amazing doing so.

Let it go.

to be fair, no one's ever won 10@ games
That's not true. I think every team, except maybe the White Sox, has won 10 or more road games this season alone.

That’s the same with the Braves. Our rotation and back end of the bullpen is as good as any. If we get there, I think we’d be a tough out especially if Ozzie and Riley come back strong, but I’m not very confident in us getting there

I’m gonna be pissed if they choke it away like the 03 Tigers
