I think it can be stated very simply this way: Apple is not a great value.

I got an 11 pretty soon after they were released and was excited to do it because I was coming from a 6S Plus and one of my hobbies is iPhone cinematic footage using a Beastgrip Pro, Protake, post-production, etc. It was a nice step up but in no way, shape or form am I happy with how much I paid to do it. I expected more and I regret doing it. I see now there was absolutely nothing wrong with my "old" phone.

The main reason I regret doing it is because I want to use a de-Googled Linux phone for privacy but with such an investment, I'm pretty much committed.

The other two screens had widgets like "Keep" for notes and my calendar on them. So instead of needing to open apps, I could just swipe between screens to see the information I needed. That sounds like the swipe right (from the left edge) from home screen, or the swipe down from the top right corner. Swipe right will pull up custom widgets (I do calendar, stocks, weather, and fantasy football. from teh rop right swipe down I have things like quick access to wifi, bluetooth, QR, etc. And of course I lock my favorite apps to the bottom of the first screen.

I agree and have heard of people buying Apple products (usually their computers I think) for video rendering en sech. It must be legit. I'm not very familiar with all of that.

Samsung is getting just as bad if not worse than Apple when it comes to their prices. They are usually more likely to go on sale than Apple, but they don't hold their value like Apple's do either.

The “left” screen seems to be the closest thing in terms of android functionality that I’m looking for. The widgets themselves are pretty meh. I do like the Beats integration with my headphones. I’m hoping I can tinker with the phone in general to get it where I want it enough. Granted I’m on a cheap as $30 a month plan that I can jump off at any time, so this iPhone experiment will pay for itself in two months since i picked up the phone for $50. Wanted to test iPhone before I made a jump back to a big carrier.

The screen and camera are amazing, but it's $400 too much, at least. And good luck trying to sell that shit if you need to.

At least by that much. Their screens are the best in the game, but i'm kind of meh on their cameras. They just oversaturate and brighten shit too much for me. They also "smooth" people's faces too much. Its like they are trying to hide the ugly on people's faces instead of showing a true to life picture. Apple and Google are the leaders in computed cell photography. Google kind of innovated that with their Pixels, but Apple did a good job catching up with them on the 11's I think. They say Huawei does good too, but we can't get those here.

Totally agree about the Samsung camera. It's a no-go for me because I use Raw in Protake. But my buddy has one and that screen is BRIGHT and HUGE and the pics are pretty stunning just because they're sooo filtered and processed.

A kid I know was all proud of his Samsung knockoff from China (had One in the brand name?) and I was pretty impressed with his little phone for $399.

Can't you turn in your 11 and get a 12 for "free"? Just commit to another contract? I thought someone told me that... or get like, $900 off a 12 with an exchange of an 8 or newer?

One+ phones are legit. I've had 5 Google phones in a row dating back to their Nexus line and I am considering going One+ next year if Google doesn't make a true flagship like they didn't this year. One+ used to be the "flagship killer" brand because they would have flagship caliber features with a mid tier price. I think even they got up to $900 this year though so they are trending in the wrong direction when it comes to value.

Not everyone cares about data security, I guess. I'd gladly take fewer whiz-bangs for stability and security.

I think Google's titan chip is pretty legit when it comes to security unlese something has changed recently or i'm misunderstanding how all of that works. I couldn't care less about the data and privacy shit though. To each their own, just never been something I worried myself with.

Their chip still doesn't silo all the info, even if they do try to imply it is a secure enclave. It still speaks with the mothership, and I'm not ok with that. I don't store my CC in apps or on websites because I don't trust them not to get hacked. I keep it on my apple wallet which stays on the device and nowhere else.

in using this iPhone that’s sort of where I’m at. I wanted something “new” because I’m a basic bitch and I realized I got an entry level iPhone just to try it but In playing with it for a few days, I don’t know why I switched. Google made me the mads with all their dumb ecosystem changes but i am not liking this iPhone stuff at all. For every little benefit I’m seeing, I’m not getting larger functionality elsewhere.

Take me back, google!
