Tell me why you think that? Don't get me wrong ... for some reason I am not as optimistic, too, and am fearful that Stet will prove us all wrong. But I think it's because I have fallen into the "he's a great CFB QB but not a pro" and I am not sure why. So, tell me the exact reasons you don't think he can play in the NFL. I am genuinely interested.
Here is why I think he will have a chance, so long as he gets in the right system (which is true for most QBs):
1. He's smart as hell, and understands the game. We all know that a lot of really physically talented QBs just didn't have the brains to take advantage of their skill. So, as to the mental aspect of the game, I think you will find he would easily be in the top half of the league. So, he has a high QB IQ.
2. He's fast. He will run in the 4.5s. Now, he's not Fields, Allen, or Jackson, but he's a slippery guy who has the ability to extend plays with his legs. Maybe a good comparison would be Mahomes, although he's faster. Yet Mahomes has the ability to extend plays with his feet.
3. He has an above average arm. Yes, I said that and it's true. No, he doesn't have a cannon, but you don't need a cannon if you have a quick release and can throw with accuracy. People who call him a game manager are crazy ... he's actually more of a gunslinger, which can actually drive you nuts when he tries to do too much.
4. He has intangibles. He is a gamer and a baller who excels when the most is on the line. Stop and think - he was the O MVP in 4 CPF games and 1 SECCG. He was a Heisman finalist, and won the Manning Award. He is a leader, and has a chip on his shoulder. He's clutch as hell. From his first game taking over and coming back against Arky in 2020, to the perfect drive in the 4th quarter of the Peach Bowl, he's been as clutch as an QB in this class.
5. UGA runs an offense that is closer to an NFL O than most.
6. The main downside he has is his size - he's 5-11 at best, and 190 soaking wet. But, he's been throwing for 3 years behind NFL height OL, so it's not like he is going to suddenly not be able to see over the OL. Basically, he's the same size as Bryce Young, faster and more elusive, but he doesn't have the zip that Young has.
Read this eval, and then compare his eval with Bryce Young. It's almost comical. They are the same size (ignore the 6 foot nonsense - there are plenty of pictures of the two standing together and he isn't taller than Stetson) and everything they say about Bryce equally applies to Stetson.
