Lincoln Riley is a dumbass

Ah, they were 9-1 because the Ole Miss game got cancelled.

They still finished in top 10 and had the equivalent of a 10 win season.
they still didn't win 10 games and he got an extension.. hell everyone is saying they are having another great season despite only beating 1 school with a winning record.

If USC was only interested in 9-3 seasons, there was no reason to fire Helton. USC is looking fot 10-12 win seasons and contending for the cfp.

People act like Helton had losing seasons at USC. He had one losing season. In his complete seasons (not including interim) he went 10-3, 11-3, 5-7. 8-5 and 5-1.

Clay Helton was making just under $5 million per year at USC. I doubt USC is looking to pay someone 3 times that amount for essentially the same results. They are paying that kind of money for Pete Carroll results, not Clay Helton results.
wait so your telling me if Helton went 9-3 his past 3 seasons, he still would have been fired?? I also bet the recruiting would have been better had he churned out more 9-3 seasons

My only question is how well does Riley fit/adapt with the off the field culture at USC. There is going to be a lot more celebrity influence at USC and is something to be dealt with daily. Short of a personality/style clash, it really is a good hire, if not a great one for USC.

We get about as much TV attention as USC (even if half of it is negative) and we fill our stadium despite having 7-5 and 6-6 type seasons so I would say from a fanbase and profitability standpoint, we are better than USC.

That's why you're your stuck being a middling team with no real shot at getting better. The school knows they will fill the stadium to watch your team lose.

USC knows that if they lose...they're going to lose a lot of money. Being willing to pay for an average to below average product doesn't make you "better off".

From a business sense (just looking at $$$), I don't think it was the best of moves. He had it made at Oklahoma.

Having it made in LA is far different than having it made in Oklahoma.

Issue with California is just overcrowding. Southern California is one of the most beautiful areas of our country (or was) and people flocked to it. The scenery has been paved over with development and it is not what it once was. Nashville is a hotbed for immigrants from Southern California and this is the reoccurring theme.

lol

You really think that someone making $15 million per year is dealing with crowded streets, etc. Go visit Malibu, Manhattan Beach, Beverly Hills, etc. and tell me all about the crowds, etc. those people are dealing with or how "paved over" things are.

There is a reason companies (with the exception of tech companies) are fleeing California. (I do know that Tech Companies have some tax benefits that keeps them a float so in some ways, California's government isn't that dumb in that they are driving out Manufacturing but keeping the Tech jobs).

That might be an issue if Lincoln Riley were being hired to run a big tech company. Fortunately for USC, that's not what they need him for. Oh, and you know what industry isn't leaving...the entertainment industry. Guess what industry he'll need for any marketing opportunities he may want and will be enlisted for NIL.

Heck, the premiere film school in the country is at USC.

I think you’re missing the variety of other options in a city like Los Angeles versus Knoxville.
Just from a personal perspective, I could have a lot more fun in the area around Knoxville that I could in LA.

River>>>ocean

Do we know how much Riley is making and who is coming with him yet?

Yes. At the least he would be on a pretty hot seat. 9-3 gets you competing for PAC-12 titles, which is nice...but it doesn't get you competing for NC's. Like I said...USC isn't going to be paying Riley 3 times what they paid Helton for essentially the same results.

You haven't lived on the coast before.

NOTHING compares with the saltwater and I mean nothing especially if you have a boat.
You see the ocean once, you’ve seen it a million times. Give a River front you need 4x4 to get to, a John boat, bank hooks, catfish and corn liquor. Get to where the game wardens don’t go

Nothing official, but from what is out there, it's 10 years $150 million. I expect that has to be pretty close because from what has been said LSU offered him $12 million per year, so I'd expect that USC had to at least match that.

So far, it looks like the DC, co-OC, Wide Receivers coach and strength coach. Some "ops" guy I guess too. As far as recruits, I guess a few California kids have de-committed and apparently Malachi Nelson has already contacted Riley about USC.

You have all that in California. Plus mountains, deserts and forests.

If they give him a guaranteed 10-year deal they might not have a choice if he doesn't come through. Nobody is going to pay a coach 60 million to go away.

I would argue from an NIL perspective that you are NOT even the premier team in the Pac12. Oregon is in a better spot with the Nike Connections.

You think Hollywood = NIL which is flawed logic. Sure it helps but you really need to get the companies that are interested in branding sports.

I think you are also looking at things based on 1980s-early 2000s perspective. Everything is remote now. I doubt Riley or USC players have that much access to anything Hollywood related. Most actors don't live in Southern Cal anymore and movies are often filmed in other parts of the country or globe.

I do agree with you that if he could be like Pete Carrol part 2 and get USC rolling again, they would be a force to reckon with. However, you can say the same thing about a lot of teams including FSU, Miami, Tennessee, Texas, etc.

Just stop.

If USC starts winning the corporate sponsorship will be off the charts in a city like LA. Those athletes will be in every rap video produced. If they stink it up then the opportunities will be average but still on par with Oregon as they aren't going to pay every single kid on the team.

What USC won't have is a rabid base that will provide NIL money no matter what but in a city like LA it will balance out.
