More Michigan Cheating

Michigan has a type.

The dude trying to lure minors and now this guy playing hackerman to get coeds nudes. Sounds like there is a culture problem up there.
No, these sick cocksuckers are everywhere. This is out of the realm of football.

Yep, it isn't political, it isn't religion (except maybe for 1), it isn't sports culture.

Perverts are everywhere and if some people have their way, it will be normalized.

The "every football program has sexual predators" angle sure is fun.
I don't think so, but you half to get rid of the vermin who infest your team. I know Penn State had their problems, but they have cleared it out. Any team can be hit. Any cover up should be punished.

Apparently Michigan knew of Weiss crimes but didn't take action until after the playoff game vs TCU.

Perhaps you are right… Michigan should have been punished (if what you are saying is true). The NCAA is way behind.

And now, the first of many (perhaps a couple of thousand) lawsuits were filed vs Weiss and Michigan - a UM soccer player and a UM gymnast claim that Weiss had intimate pictures from his hacking scheme.

"The lawsuit alleges that the two women, one who was a gymnast in 2017 and 2018 and one who was a soccer player from 2017 to 2023, were among Weiss's thousands of victims. The University of Michigan and its Board of Regents failed to supervise and monitor Weiss, which led to women having their privacy invaded, according to the lawsuit."

This is going to end up being very expensive for UM.

Word to the wise: Nothing you have is private. If you don't want others and/or the world to see it, best not to snap the picture.

Hard to imagine they win this. UM did in fact catch him. But UM may just settle to get rid of it.

First of all, I know of no actual evidence, but it sounds like a criminal case followed by a class action civil case. Nothing here appears to be cheating, but Michigan will be paying some serious coin. Matt Weiss will need money for his account.

They caught him, alright - after several years of his antics. Michigan will never allow this to go to court. They would be destroyed by the discovery process alone.

They will pay, and through the nose, Weiss is named in the suit, but the biggest pockets usually pay in cases like this. Weiss is going to need every penny he has to defend himself in the criminal trial.

I do imagine all of the cases which will be filed (and there will be many) will be combined into one case and Michigan will set up a fund to compensate victims. It's gonna be a big pile of cash.

We can wait for more facts here but just based on a criminal existing in your midsts I’m not sure that makes you negligent and or financially responsible to the victims. UM has 40,000 employees and he was committing the crime 3x longer under the Ravens org. He was caught by UM IT and immediately fired. Unless there was some coverup or some obvious sign was probably ignored, I don’t think an employer is responsible just because an employee committed a crime while employed. IE, the Bo thing was bad because there was gross negligence and or a cover up by the athletic department.

The argument from the athletes seems to be that UM should have done more to protect their data? Which seems pretty loose unless, again, there’s some facts we don’t know about. Especially because it involves their own personal social media—which isn’t something UM controls.

Why wouldn’t the Ravens be more responsible then? He was only employed by UM for under 2 years and was at the ravens for over 6 while committing the crimes?

if they can prove Michigan was somehow negligent in the way they handled student data.

They won't have to prove anything. Michigan will settle. They will not want to take the chance this goes to trial and it comes out that Weiss was showing his co-workers the pics (which may not have happened but every well could have). The. You expose other UM employees who said nothing. It gets a lot worse.

Taking this to trial is far to risky for UM and drags out something the most certainly want to go away.

I’m not fully up to date on how civil trials play out but I don’t think UM will just pay off any lawsuit they get hit with; especially if there isn’t a valid argument that they should be held liable.

Unless there’s some other information here that we don’t know about, it doesn’t seem like tha student have any case here.

It wouldn't exactly be shocking if they were. That athletic department is rotten, to put it nicely.
I’d agree with this. I would not be shocked. But that would have to be true for the students to have a legitimate complaint here against the school.

While working at Michigan, he used university-owned equipment to perpetrate his crimes.

When I was working, a person was fired for just connecting his phone to his work computer (he was listening to music through his computer speakers).

At Michigan, there were apparently no security measures nor surveillance monitoring which is very odd in the world of computers. These students are about to get paid.

You can continue to live in the fantasy world where Michigan has no culpability and every accusation ever hurled their way has been made up out of thin air. The rest of us will reside in reality.
