See that wasn't hard was it?

When we use all our words we encourage understanding.

Nice try Yormark

Personally, I think the death of network television isn't far off and streaming platforms are likely the future. However, the Pac-12 isn't strong enough to take that first step. If the SEC or B1G made that move, it would be a domino effect, and that will likely be something we see some time this decade, but Pac-12 will need to follow in that regard if they want to survive that long.
ehh man the streaming services are losing money.. someone mentioned paramount plus, peacock, Hulu all took a hit.. streaming just isn't profitable at this time.. Meanwhile Fox did not invest into a streaming channel and double downed on staying with cable and they have actually shown profits.

Network television and cable aren't going away. Sure they may not be as strong as it was 25 years ago, but as long as the streaming premium channels continue to charge a la carte.. it makes cable viable.

PAC is in a tough position but if Apple is what keeps them together than I'm all for it to hopefully work out. I make fun of that conference but it's going to be a real shame to see it fall apart to nothing. Sure SC/UCLA are gone and possibly Oregon and Udub in the not too distant future but it would be great to see them keep as many of the schools as possible there.

i mean i guess. i didnt think given the context of the majority of this thread it was going to be hard to figure out

It wasn't hard for most of us to figure out.

Baylor AD:

“I am certainly not rooting for the demise of any particular conference, but I am also looking out for what is best for Baylor and what is best for Baylor is a really really strong Big 12, and one that secures its future but not over just the next six years but beyond. There is a short gain but also a long gain for this. It is dependent on what happens among the Pac-12. There may be movement if whatever media deal they are able to strike is not satisfactory. We have to be prepared for that and I think we are if that was to happen. Again, looking out for the Big 12, how do we strengthen ourselves,” Rhoades told 365 Sports, according to 247Sports.

I'm surprised an AD in another conference would make anything close to that type of statement about another conference. He must be feeling that a PAC collapse is going to happen.

Nothing wrong with "if the PAC collapses, we will be there." I mean we are all saying that here. Everyone knows what he is saying is true. All the Networks know it and it's built into the negotiations. ESPN and FOX play hardball knowing they might pick up the best of the PAC in the B12 contract. It's bidness.

I want it, the Pac12 was pretty much dead once USC and UCLA left. Better to see the B1G and Big12 take the left over teams so we at least have interesting matchup.

That 10 (or 12 if they add SD State and SMU) Pac12 would not be a solid league long-term. Big12 is barely hanging in there but at least they might pick up the Arizonas, Colorado, and Utah. That might them more legit.

It also means that the PAC would be out of the auto-qualifying for P5s as they would no longer be a P5. When they renegotiated the CFP contract for 2026, the PAC most likely will be gone, or will be relegated to G5 status. So we will have 5 AQs - 4 P5 and one G5.

what autoqualifying? last word was top ranked 6 conference champions. are you saying that a pac 12/10 champion without LA couldnt be 1 of the top ranked champions?

why not? you dont think a conference where Oregon, Washington, Utah and the occasional other school are champions and is a solid league without LA? as opposed to USC and UCLA and their combined 1 Pac 12 championship and 0 playoff appearances?

Replacing USC and UCLA with SMU and SDSU and other lesser teams might make it so they drop it to 5 instead of 6. I mean at this point you are more G5 than P5. The contract that they do in 2026 is wide open. The SEC and the B1G will be behind the wheel driving it. They will insist on $$ shares based on numbers of teams in the CFP and how many games they win. And when it comes to AQ, if they don't see the PAC as being any more competitive than a G5 conference, they may argue for the top 5 conferences.

Problem is that unless Ore and UDub commit to a GOR, and stop openly flirting with the prettier girl, I would fully expect the corner schools to say fuck you and move to the B12. Especially when you can't get anyone other than Apple to broadcast your games.

I truly take no pleasure in this, but you guys are dead conference walking right now.

Won’t it be 2 P5s and one G5? There won’t be but two P5s left by 2026.

It's kind of interesting to me. Right now you have 5 and 5, so they went with 6 which guarantees one G5 per year. So, a lot depends on what happens with the PAC in the next few months.

- Even if they get the same money as the B12, they aren't going to get the exposure. It will be so easy on the recruiting trail to say, "do you really want your games on Apple TV or ION TV? Come here and you will be on ESPN every week where everyone can easily watch you." You are nuts if you don't think that will make a difference for many players.

- Ore and UDub are playing a risky game. By flirting with the B1G, or not wanting to sign a GOR, they are telling everyone else they aren't really in the conference and will jump at their first opportunity. If I am one of the corner schools I'd say screw that. I can get the same deal, if not better, better exposure, in a league that will be here for a while. We may not get SEC/B1G money, but we will have a solid league with teams that for better or worse no one else wants. They have a bright, young, aggressive commissioner. They will always have a place at the CFP table.

- Or, go with a league with 2 teams that want out from day 1, and 2 teams that no one cares about - SMU and SDSU.

Gun to head, I'd say the PAC isn't going to make it and we will have 4 P5s, 5 G5s. If that is the case, I think they drop the AQ count to 5.

The ACC and the B12 will survive, but will be way behind on revenue.

more G5 than P5 by adding 2? when Big XII added 4?
what basis would there be to view it that way? because no UCLA or USC? there were plenty of years where those 2 were down and the Pac champ was still in the top 5-10

That's why I don't see a P4. In football, they'll be so far behind on revenue they won't even be considered with the other two. The Big 12 will look more like the Mountain West and the ACC will look more like the Sun Belt. After a few years of significant revenue difference, even their other sports will decline. JMO.

Big12 will be fine because as of now and the foreseeable future, maybe outside of KU, nobody wants any of those schools in future expansions
