Saban takes a MASSIVE shot at Jimbo.

That's not really true. We lost more players to ATM that Bama did. ATM's class was only about 170 points higher than Bama's which puts it within the margin of error. And we were 60 points behind that, all within the margin of error. (I used Rivals only because I have those handy from another post).

Bama (2021) - 3548
Bama (2017) - 3477
ATM (2022) - 3470
UGA (2018) - 3461
Bama (2022) - 3297
tOSU (2021) - 3262
UGA (2022) - 3235
tOSU (2018) - 3192
tOSU (2017) - 3078
UGA (2019) - 3063
UGA (2020) - 3055
Bama (2019) - 3047
Clemson (2020) - 3034
Bama (2020) - 3007
UGA (2017) - 2825

The point is that Saban's last two classes were crazy good. He isn't bitching because you were ahead of him ... we've done that 3 times. He simply does not think what is happening is sustainable, and many people agree with him. He just said out loud what everyone else has been saying. Honestly, let's say they decide collectives can do whatever they want ... do you really think Bama, or UGA or tOSU is going to have a problem find the NIL money? Of course they will.
Of course they will find money, but they won't outspend A&M.

The money being spent right now isn't sustainable IMO but I don't think the NCAA or the government need to pass any rules. It will self regulate when boosters get tired of spending 30 Million Dollars on recruits only to see their team in the Duke's Mayo Bowl

Another way to look at this is let's say Texas or Texas A&M or USC boosters fork out $25,000,000 a year for four recruiting/transfer portal cycles and finally win a NC. The donations the athletic departments would receive are about half as much as the NIL money. That would put the total cost at ~$150,000,000 for a NC. Is 1 NC in one sport worth $150,000,000?

Spending vast sums to win a CFB NC while screaming "our school is dubious and our alumni have pathetic priorities in life" seems like a bad long-term investment. In fact, it's an investment in destroying CFB. Give it to your students and research - you dumb fucking rednecks!

Bama has been dominant. Do you think America looks at that university with respect? FSU in the 90s? Fucking gross Ohio State? Now aTm wants to be looked at as a dumb hick football school?

What's wrong with people? They go overboard with the bread and circuses distractions and ruin things for everyone else.
I've managed $ for rich people for 30 years. The one message I've delivered that entire time is "Just because you can doesn't mean you should."

Saban: "Didn't mean to single anybody out."

LOL.

Saban should have doubled down

i hate when people apologize after they make comments that they believe in

Saban should have said, "if it wasn't for me, Jimbo Fisher would be working the cash register at some random waffle house in West Virginia. He has lost all perspective and he is an embarrassment to my coaching tree."

Maybe after 4 or 5 it won't be, but until then...yes.

Fair points. Do you think FSU or tOSU care what "America thinks of them"? Think A&M would care? Think anyone other than their alumni respects UF?
Also, what good is a lot of money if you don't spend it on what you enjoy?

To which Saban should respond:

You are correct, I deserve to be investigated. So, let's get to the bottom of this complaint. Let's have ATM provide all the documents that were signed, a list of all communications between ATM and its agents (e.g. collectives). Require that the players meet with enforcement and tell them what happened, what has been promised, etc. Once you do that, then you can discipline me.

It would be the shortest complaint ever filed with the SEC.
He would never do that because it opens the door to people asking questions about his program.

Jimbo didn’t handle this well but this is the second time his language has a vailed threat that he has knowledge Saban doesn’t want known.

Jeremy Pruitt made similar comments to back Kirby off at one point.

I can promise you none of these guys wants anyone looking into their programs.

Well you can spend your money on making the world a better place for as many people as you possibly can also.

That’s another issue I have with this NIL garbage. Bunch of really rich guys paying large sums to boost their own egos when all that money and resources to go towards bettering lives.

How about instead of just handing these kids a million dollars which is insane we invest in schools, parks, hunger programs, community centers and healthcare in the communities these kids come from.

As human beings that is what should occur. The whole thing is sad.

It doesn't matter what they think of UF, because they're average trash. Florida has gone from a middle of the pack school to a top 10 and climbing. We're just a better school and everyone knows it, and will likely be considered Public Ivy from now on. That move upward came from money.

aTm is in a position to move past a troubled UT as the best university in Texas. Another 20+ million per year might put your alumni on top. BUT instead, you have to get all white trashy and waste the money on seemingly unethical aggression in CFB recruiting. It's retarded. Y'all need to get serious.

And that is EXACTLY why a school that spends an exorbitant amount of money to buy championships is destined to get turned in at some point and then they will be crying "But you hate us only because we are rich". And the other 98% of teams will secretly be pulling for them to get hammered. It's gonna happen. And then the rich school will start disclosing stuff about other schools and it will be Popcorn Time. However, the root cause of that clusterfvck will be the insane spending some schools can afford and others can't.

Because I made my money and I can spend it on whatever time/money waste I want. That's American as apple pie :suds:

You talk as though $30M from a massive alumni network is anything more than a drop in the bucket. A&M has been on an upward trend on the academic side for the last 20 years. We already have world renowned engineering and agriculture/environmental programs and the business school isn't anything to scoff at.
Spending money on things that get national coverage isn't mutually exclusive to bettering the academic program as well.

OU really needs to stop being so poor!

I'm definitely trolling with facts....but facts they remain.

UT is a mess and aTm could be squandering the huge opportunity to pull the best students, profs and grants in Tejas.
