Texpectations: Longhorn Superthread

Really? Lemme help you there.

Because nobody underachieves like tejas. NOBODY!!!
which is why we are now in a new regime.. Don't understand the people who are/were in full faux rage about Herman not getting enough time.
Sark just hired Bo Davis for DL, the guy who literally was a truck driver because he had to step away for recruiting infractions.. About time UT started to play the game

Thiefery, I've been talking to some of my Texas buddies about their feelings on what the mentality is now at UT. They are nervous UT will go "rogue" and start doing anything to win. Anything. That's not the way Texas has always been. Dirty recruiting, dirty players, dirty playing were all avoided or pretty much taken care of soon at Texas after it became obvious what was happening. But now? Will UT go over to the dark side in their desperation to turn things around? One of the best things about the OU/Texas games is there has not been a lot of cheap shots. Just good hard nosed football with a heaping helping of hate. But no cheap shit like Colorado used to do as a matter of routine. "Playing the game" is what shit schools like Baylor do. Maybe Sark is going to play on the edge but I'd advise him to do everything he can to stay clean because, trust me, if the NCAA ever has a chance to royally fuck Texas for serious violations they will do it pump up their own image.

I agree they needed to put their chips on the table and roll the dice again.

Other than the few established elites that are simply 'unavailable'...Landing an unknown, upcoming, elite, is shithouse luck.
It always has been.

I've never been into the "This seems like a good fit" mantra when a coach is newly hired. Either a coach can put the pieces together, and get guys lined up right, or they can't.

That being said... With the talent in their own backyard, Texas should not have to break the rules, just find someone that can put the pieces together and get them lined up right. Do that and everything else will take care of itself when it comes to keeping kids home.

Yep. It was typically the little brothers in the Southwestern Conference that had to cheat to keep up with tejas' resources.

They've been handicapped for years now even under Strong. Waddell was a silent, but then had an uncle who took over his recruitment (heard this before? lol) and began asking.. Bama gave him 80k and he committed to them.. now that was a BARGAIN for what that kid has done for that program on the field.

Dylan Wright was another. There is a money tour during the spring and summers with visits. It's why a lot of recruits from CA, AZ and TX all visit the southeast.

I'm not going to be upset that UT begins taking part because the whole landscape is doing it. From Clemson and it's Church outreach, to the way Urban left his bag system in place at tosu to Kirby and Saban not missing a beat. Michigan runs a clean program for being a blueblood and they are hurting.

I don't think UT will have to play this game very long because with the NIL coming up, Boosters will have the biggest part to play and that will be on the up and up.

With the NIL coming into play.. how much will that boost NE? I also wonder if y'all do make a return to the Big12 next round of realignment, I really think it may be real.

I see it as a push with the rest of college football. The Husker apparel stores will be able to sell their jersey numbers again where they've been limited to generic numbers since the Sam Keller/EA Sports fiasco. Businesses will be able to use them in advertisements, etc.

I don't see Nebraska ever returning to the Big 12. They make far more money in the Big 10 and the Big 10 doesn't have the recruiting restrictions meant to favor certain teams (Big 12 South) over others.
Example being that 'coaches can only be on the recruiting trail a certain number of hours'. That favors the in-state Texas teams and also OU/OSU that are just a stone's throw away from Texas. A three hour drive from Norman and they're in Texas. They can visit a Texan recruit and be back in Norman same day. Texas has the biggest advantage of all in that Texas HS players send their tapes to the Austin offices. "Look at me, I want to play for my in-state school". Texas coaches don't even have to dig hard to find highly rated players.

Iowa St does not have equal recruiting advantages to the Big 12 southern schools. They simply have a coach that can put the pieces together and get people lined up right.

Regarding NIL, it's just a matter of time before the Women's Rowing teams start screaming about 'unfairness'.

lol these days recruits taking unofficial visits to wherever. Recruits here fly from TX to CA to OH to FL all on their own **dime**. Also, for school up north that are hampered by any hours limit.. get connected with Ro Simon or similar 7 on 7 coaches/trainers. They will take the team to your campus on their own **dime** and will also help steer a kid towards the school too. It's a wild west in TX these days, gone are the times of THSB coaches being the most important person besides momma.

Hey @Goldbug @Wishbone this was on a board.. not sure if it's legit but boy does it sound for real;

"heard something funny about Boulware from someone who was a staff member for Herman. He was hired and paid way more than his worth so we could get intel on Lincoln Riley's offense and what kid of defenses make him uncomfortable. So the first day he was in meetings and they put him on the whiteboard. And it was clear within two minutes he had no fucking clue what he was doing. So they stopped asking."

Hard to believe. Man, that's real hard to believe unless Boulware is just a total idiot.

That doesn't concern me as much as Chandler Morris taking the offensive playbook with him to TCU.

Troy Aikman saw the handwriting on the wall after OU's National Championship 1985 season when he had lost his starting job to freshman Jamelle Holieway (due to Aikman suffering a season-ending injury in the Miami game) and he decided he wanted to get out of OU. So Switzer called Terry Donahue at UCLA and eventually Aikman decided that's where he would go. However, Donahue called Switzer back and said "Did you realize we're the first game on your schedule this coming season?" Switzer said he did and admitted it was going to be kind of a conflict with Aikman transferring with all that knowledge in his head. So they worked out a deal where Aikman would not report for practice until after the OU game (which was UCLA's first game of the season). Donahue asked Switzer if he trusted Aikman not to spill the beans before they played each other. Barry said "Sure". And that's how it went down. OU 38 - UCLA 3. And Aikman reported the next day on Sunday for film study. That was also the game where Brian Bosworth painted "UC" on the sole of one of his shoes and "LA" on the other one.

Herman is a member of Mensa. Probably too smart to be a HC. Overthinks things. It’s better than having a coach like Kirby Smart who underthinks things, but neither really works
I would be willing to bet this is the first time in his life anyone ever said Herman might be too smart for anything

Good to know that will change in 13 years. But yeah congrats on the wins during the leather helmet days!
