TV Series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

I watched season 1 episode 7 last night. Got tired of the slow pace so stopped watching months ago. Figured I would start it up again last night after the game.

It wasn't as bad as I remembered it being but it might be that I was tired of watching Gal bumble around in Numinor. Whatever the reason at least now there is finally something going on instead of her drama.

I enjoyed the first 3 episodes that dropped so far. Granted, I liked the first season as well.

I read five.

That's great.........but it's liable to take a decade.
Amazon is investing somewhere in the billion dollar range on LOTR content so its going to go on for a while and they are going to try and keep people subscribing. To me it makes no sense because I have Prime for the free shipping and save 3 times what I pay and the TV is just a bonus and LOTR doesn't move the needle for me at all.

I'd much rather they put their money into shows like Reacher, Jack Ryan and Terminal Man and have then come out more frequently. That is my biggest gripe about pretty much all streamers is that they have some great content but there are stretches where there is nothing new I want to watch or they have two going on at once. Just space this content where there is at least one show always on that is worth watching.

I'm fired up for episode 4 and will be watching it right after dinner tonight.

We haven't started it yet, probably tomorrow night. Just going to keep an open mind

I've enjoyed it so far. I'm not a purist so I don't care if some of the series is not following the Silmarillion or whatever text this era is supposed to be following. I read the silmarillion. Found it boring and don't remember any of it anyways.

The cgi has been great. At times epic. There is decent action and story lines. There is still a lot of mystery regarding some of the characters. There are train wrecks in the making. This is a good series.

We watched the first one last night, pretty decent. I liked the way they brought Sauron back, that was cool. Some plot holes in terms of how all the rings were made and how the elves responded to them, but I see how the writers were going for drama.

Only watched 1 episode in season 2 so far but im invested in it by now.

Deviations from canon tick me off but there isn't enough there for me to actually call out so i am OK with it for now.

To be fair, the Silmarillion was an incomplete manuscript published posthumously and is not well organized or easy to follow. JRRT's kid did his best to capitalize on his father's legacy, but it was far from par.

Yeah, the source material for Second Age narratives was really lacking in the Silmarillion. It focuses mainly on First Age events, and Second Age stuff just gets a passing mention. Would have been nice if there had been another completed work that gave more details about the rise of Sauron and the Dark Age.

Edit: but I guess that was part of Tolkien's plan, not much material "existed" about the SA because it was dark and forgettable

Ep 6 was pretty good and set up the coming war between Adar and Sauron.
