It shouldn't, but probably will be their reasoning if they flip them. My understanding was always the committee is supposed to adjust their rankings each week based on the results up to the time they are ranking. But this committee has already shown they put more value on what could have beens and what ifs than actual results up to each week.

I like Lanning, but what you said is not true. Smart was winning big games in year 2. What was true is he had to get past Bama, like everyone else. He did that in 2021.

And Dan Lanning hasn't finished year 2, let's wait and see how this season ends for Oregon before making the year 2 comparison. My point is that it's extremely premature to make broad judgements about a coach. There were plenty of casuals claiming that Kirby would never be the guy to win a title before the 2021 season.

I never said anything about Lanning. Smart lost in the NC in 2017 in year 2 in OT. We had multiple top 3 classes. No one other than idiots were saying he wouldn’t win a NC.

I think they're good enough for it be a legit possibility but I also think Michigan, Ohio State and Georgia are better teams. It's more likely that it doesn't happen, obviously. That wasn't the contention. The contention is the claim that Lanning can't win a NC.

No argument Oregons last 2 are much tougher and would absolutely deserve to be in over Texas imo. But the committee will cite the Alabama win on the road and likely more ranked wins.

Disagree. If they were going to do that (and they could make a legit argument to do that), they could do that right now. All of that is true today. If they still rank Oregon over Texas, the committee is telling you that they think Oregon is better and they don't care what the resumes say. That won't change if Oregon beats Oregon State and Washington.

Texas also has been playing a shit ton of close games. That’s part of the reason they are one spot behind imo. But Im just not going to subscribe that a huge brand with likely a better resume can’t jump a team one spot in front of them at the end of the year because they didn’t during the season. Hope I’m wrong.

I think they are saying he can't win a NC at Oregon, not that he can't win a national title ever. There is a reason coaches go to Oregon and then leave for other jobs.

Oregon is a great program, but they aren't one of those programs where head coaches are trying to settle in at.
