I saw a report that he can earn another 2.5 in incentives. Got any idea how "incentives" would work under a hard cap?

Do they have to allocate $5M on the cap for him then only pay out whatever he earns? Did they figure out a way to circumvent cap rules to not have to claim up to half his contract? And if so, what's going to stop someone from giving an elite player a 7-year $5M aav contract with up to $15M/y in "incentives"?

They way they have it listed, it still doesn't make complete sense. The contract is listed as 1/y $5M guaranteed, but 2.5 base and 2.5 incentive with 2.5 cap hit. If incentives don't count against the cap, we can expect Auston Matthews' next contract to have a mild base and outrageous incentives package to circumvent cap restrictions. In fact, I'm surprised Tampa and Vegas haven't exploited that a dozen times already.
 
Should be an interesting year. Avs look poised to be in the SCF again, and out of the East, I can't see past the Canes or Leafs. Neither are playoff beasts, but those lineups are so strong, and the Lightning again go an offseason with little rest, but this time without the cup, so I think they will have a hard time to keep up with the rest.
 
PK Subban, Zdeno Chara and Keith Yandle all announced their retirement from the NHL at the same time.

PK will probably have a broadcasting contract signed soon... and probably making more money than he would've made playing.
Chara will probably get into some kind of hockey administrative role.
Yandle will probably drift out of the spotlight and is probably the only one of the three to actually retire from hockey.

Subban already has an ESPN deal for a "PKs Places" spinoff of Payton's Places.

I bet Yandle gets into podcasting. His brother already does it and Keith has been on Chiclets a few times.

He was a solid offensive defensemen for a few years with the Coyotes when he was in his mid-20's; got some Norris votes. He was never great in his own zone, though, and as the game evolved, his flaws became increasingly exposed.

Really, he should've retired last offseason. Last year in Philly he wound up -47 on the season with an ATOI under 14. Ugly.

Good for PK, always thought he was a good guy and he has the ability to speak on the sport well.

I was thinking, and hoping, he'd sign a 1 year deal with the Habs to finish out his careers, but alas, I hope he enjoys retirement.

I’m no Poile cheerleader by any means… but the PK Subban and Ryan Ellis deals sure do look pretty good right now. The cost to move dead cap in today’s NHL is astronomical, and Poile did so without losing anything. You gotta hand it to him.

I don't want to do the "now we can get rid of the other Black guy!" thing and I want to support a fellow Scarborough boy but Anthony Stewart seems to add very little to any panel that he is a part of :noidea:
