For sure. I just don't think this will be a vintage SC team. I know you and I differ on what their outcome might be, which makes this game all the more fascinating.
I'm not sure if "vintage USC" is a good or bad thing. Of course I'm just super high on them because of the arrival of Lynn. He's the first DC Riley has had that actually is competent, so they could be very dangerous.

Vintage as in the Pete Carroll era. I don't think this team is anything close to any of them. Say 2002-2009. That Sunday night needs to hurry up and get the hell here.

I see what you're saying. You're not wrong, outside of the Pete era they have been a mediocre program for several decades, but if they can actually get some consistency on defense and keep the pace up on offense, they could be a top 5-8 team on a regular basis, if not higher.

Yeah the second he faces an athletic defense who can throw multiple coverages at him, he's toast. Even if they were able to make the change to a spread option Denard-type offense, that offense clearly had its limitations. I can't see a scenario where they end up with one consistent starter for the whole season, and none of the options really scream optimism at this point.

I could maybe see being maybe somewhat optimistic for Orji considering he's still young and maybe has some upside

Hilariously though most of the "optimism" is coming for fucking Tuttle :pound: A guy who we know who he is, a guy who could never seize the starting job at Indiana and was incredibly not good when he did get serious run there.

Yeah, that's the huge key. What can they do defensively. I'm more of a skeptic than you are, but admittedly, they will be improved, just how much. If it's like you're saying, 11-1/10-2 is most definitely in play.

Yup, if Tuttle ends up being their starter this season, they could realistically go 6-6. He is a fine backup but has clearly shown time and again that he's not built to be a full-time starter.

They're fortunate to miss OSU and Oregon both this season. If the defense does take the step forward, I don't see a game on the schedule that isn't at least somewhat winnable. Getting Wisconsin, Penn State, Nebraska, and Notre Dame all at home should at least help them not to get tripped up, and their talent should be enough to win them at least 8/9 games. Playing at michigan so early may actually be to USC's benefit since michigan still has so many question marks on offense. I'm certainly no USC fan, and Lincoln Riley's treatment of an innocent brisket disgusts me, but getting Lynn might have been the missing link for him to finally pull through on expectations.

Well... today Aug 2nd the B1G is officially 18 members strong.

Wonder how those teams will feel finally experiencing a real TV network for once?

Here is the YouTube posting of "Maps"

"Maps" has been used by the B1G since 2014... I wonder if HBO gets a payment from the B1G for using this "Game of Thrones" style ad?

B1G is overdue for a name change. Delaney ignored me when I suggested (admittedly tongue in cheek) that they change their name to the Big Tough Conference, citing how it would jibe with BTN. Now, I’m tempted to petition Petitti to consider the TransAmerica Conference…

I read an article on The Athletic about an ultimate B1G road trip. Thought it was a pretty neat concept. Their rules were you could only go to a stadium once per year and can't see teams in back to back weeks. This would be my trip:

Week 1: Morgantown, WV - Penn State at West Virginia
Week 2: Evanston, IL - Duke at Northwestern on Friday. Ann Arbor, MI - Texas at Michigan on Saturday.
Week 3: Madison, WI - Alabama at Wisconsin
Week 4: Blacksburg, VA - Rutgers at Virginia Tech
Week 5: Los Angeles, CA - Oregon at UCLA
Week 6: Seattle, WA - Michigan at Washington
Week 7: Eugene, OR - Ohio State at Oregon
Week 8: Bloomington, IN - Nebraska at Indiana
Week 9: Los Angeles, CA - Rutgers at USC
Week 10: Happy Valley, PA - Ohio State at Penn State
Week 11: Piscataway, NJ - Minnesota at Rutgers
Week 12: West Lafayette, IN - Penn State at Purdue
Week 13: Lincoln, NE - Wisconsin at Nebraska
Week 14: Columbus, OH - Michigan at Ohio State
