tOfficial B1G Thread

It isn't a dig at Ohio. I said it the very next day after you lost to Michigan. You can look at what each QB did against Michigan's defenses and we were light years better defensively in 2023.

Before you talk about it being the 'game plan' -- Ohio ran the ball more in 2023, than they did in 2024 -- they both were equally ineffective though. And Ohio threw the ball less in 2023, than they did in 2024.

What you don't seem to grasp is -- McCord no longer had 1st round NFL draft picks at multiple WR spots. He no longer had one of the best backfields in CFB. He no longer had NFL draft picks up and down the OL. You keep talking about a weak schedule, yet ignore his weak roster. He no longer had the massive advantage of throwing to NFL talent at every position and handing it off to multiple NFL RB's. If you need to understand the difference -- go look at Will Howard's numbers at KSU and then his one year at Ohio. THAT is what having a massive talent advantage at every position does for a QB.
People that know football understand there are nuances, and that every pass isn't the same as another. We consistently put ourselves into 2nd/3rd and long situations by running it up the gut on first down and getting nowhere. We ran to the outside twice all game and it worked, and we never went back. We threw deep to Smith twice and drew penalties both times, and never went back. It's a well known fact that the gameplan is what cost us against michigan in 2024, but you seem to struggle with this. Not to mention the fact that Howard was actually playing very well before he got his bell rung, which certainly played a part.

McCord was an insanely ineffective QB at OSU. He had years of experience in the system and led us to our weakest offensive output since 2011. What you don't seem to grasp is -- McCord faced 3 defenses ranked 23rd or better in 2023, while Howard faced 9 in 2024, and Howard still had a higher comp%, higher YPA, and a much better QB rating than McCord in 2023. McCord didn't have the talent at Syracuse obviously, but he faced an exponentially weaker schedule. Of course you know this, but as I said, it's just a weak attempt to take a dig at OSU.

McCord as a 1st year starter, went into the Big House and almost beat the best team the B1G has seen in forever. He threw for 270 yards and was a last minute drive away from beating Michigan. That was a Michigan team filled with studs in the secondary.

Howard as a 5th year starter, playing at home as a 21 point favorite, he got completely dominated and battered. He threw for 170, with his long pass of the day being a 2 yard swing pass, where the guy ran for 24. With the ball and a chance to win the game against Michigan. Howard went 1 for 4 for 1 yard. His completion being a dump off to the RB.

I will say this -- the opponent quality of 2023 Michigan and 2024 Michigan isn't remotely close.
LOL

There are the excuses we love to hear from the Ohio fans. At least it is a new excuse this year. Tough to use Chip Kelly as an excuse in the other years though, as he was only their a year.
I will tell you what. I cannot wait to hear what next years excuse will be.

And AGAIN -- it has nothing to do with taking a dig at Ohio. McCord has a bigger arm, can make throws that Howard cannot. It is why they say McCord could be a 3 or 4th round pick in the NFL draft.

And AGAIN -- when your offense is vastly more talented than the defenses you are playing -- yes, you will put points up on anyone. 2023 -- Michigan's defense was more talented than Ohio's offense and McCord still almost led you to a win. 2024 -- Ohio was vastly more talented than Michigan's defense. We had Will Johnson sit out and multiple starters in the secondary out and Howard looked utterly lost when he dropped back to pass.

And AGAIN -- when you face exponentially weaker defenses, it isn't a huge deal when you have exponentially weaker teammates on offense. Now if McCord had Ohio's skill position talent at Syracuse facing the defenses he faced -- absolutely, the numbers would be bloated. That isn't the case though

You still keep ignoring the fact that Howard was better at OSU than McCord was, despite playing against far more high end defenses. I know it totally deflates your argument so you keep sidestepping it, but that's sorta your thing.

There are no throws McCord can make that Howard can't. There are absolutely throws Howard can make that McCord can't. McCord's pocket presence is horrible, his ability to read a defense is just as bad.

There's a reason McCord had to transfer out of OSU after spending 3 years there after being the first OSU QB not to be drafted in the first round since JT Barrett. There's a reason he's only going pro after the NCAA denied him an extra year of eligibility. Everyone knows this except for you.

Name me another B1G team who won 15 games and went undefeated, blowing out the team in the national championship game.

I will wait. Have a feeling we will hear crickets though
Ohio State beat the same amount of top 10 teams in January 2025 alone as michigan did the entire 2023 season + playoffs, and OSU beat them by a higher average margin. They also beat 3 other top 10 teams between November and December 2024, again by a higher average margin than michigan.

Also you didn't blow out Washington in the national title game. It was a one score game midway through the 4th. Congrats on eventually pulling away from the second lowest rated team to make the 4 team CFP in 10 years though, I guess.

Please don't ever mention your Ohio team from this past year -- you couldn't even beat 2024 Michigan, who were without their best player on offense and their best player on defense.

It is hilarious that you would even put them in the conversation. That's what homers do though.

I seem to have struck quite the nerve there :dhd:

You mean, the 5th year senior who starter like 30 games before coming to Ohio and will be 24 as a rookie was better than the 1st year starter? Crazy.

Howard had 35 interceptions in 1200 career pass attempts. McCord had 20 in 1000 career pass attempts.
Howard completed 63% of his passes in his career. McCord completed 67% of his passes.

McCord transferred for the same reason Knowles left to be a DC for one of your rivals and same reason Chip Kelly left to be an OC elsewhere -- Ohio fans are bat shit crazy and Ryan Day is a controlling douche, which makes smacking him around so much fun. If you lose, it is everyone else's fault and the excuses come pouring out. It was Knowles fault his 1st year at DC when you lost to Michigan. It was McCord's fault you lost to Michigan, even though he carried your team, unlike Howard. It was Chip Kelly's fault you lost to Michigan. Excuse after excuse after excuse. Someone new to blame, as i've said the last few years, I can't wait to hear who is to blame next year.

As far as a QB wanting to stay in college a 5th year -- you do realize, that is EXACTLY what Howard did, the guy you are touting as the QB who can make all the throws. If he could make all the throws -- teams would be lining up to draft him. Instead -- McCord will likely hear his name called before Howard and i wouldn't be surprised if it was called a few round ahead of Howard. But what do the NFL scouts know.

The 5th year senior that played for entirely different cast of coaches vs. the 3rd year junior in his 3rd year in the program working with the same cast of coaches and players? That wasn't the point you thought it would be.

LOL at your retarded reasoning for McCord leaving. It's very well documented that he left because he wasn't guaranteed the starting spot going into his 4th year. Spewing unfounded bullshit is certainly your thing.

Big difference is, Howard had already gotten an NFL grade when he left KSU and went to a far better program at OSU to try and improve his draft stock. He had that option and didn't need to try and petition the NCAA for it. McCord had to leave OSU to go to a much lesser program because nobody else wanted him and then tried to stay yet again but was denied. LOL at the idea of McCord being drafted "a few rounds ahead of Howard". My god, you're retarded.

Not at all -- it is your normal homer banter. That is what makes it so fun beating you every year.
Well it only took 2+ decades and the biggest on field cheating scandal in CFB history for you to do it. Congrats?

No words are necessary. Also, no suspensions, either.

Now you are comparing 30 games of actual experiences as a starting QB to practice reps? Keep those blinders on fan boy.

I'm sure eleven warriors and the columbus dispatch are about as unbiased as yourself. No one blames McCord for leaving though -- he got more money from Syracuse and finished in the top 10 in the Heisman by putting the team on his back and he didn't have to listen to the Ohio fan base. That's a huge win for him.

PLEASE tell me Will Howard's draft grade when he left KSU. His draft grade was -- stay in college because you aren't getting drafted.

I'm going to laugh when McCord is drafted ahead of Howard in the NFL draft.

But the first clean B1G team to win a title in the last 2 years.

No need for me to hide.
Are you saying Michigan players didn't shower? How dare you.

No, I am saying they are cheating ass cheaters.
