Is Clemson any good? CFB is impossible to do the common opponent comparison. On any given day, a random team could play lights out or just completely mail it in.

If USC or TCU fall, they're definitely out. It'll come down to an argument b/t Bama, tOSU, and Tennessee. Ohio State's last game was so bad that I could see recency bias completely eliminating them from the discussion. Maybe they even just take an ACC champ Clemson over any of those 3? I doubt it, but it doesn't seem completely unfathomable.

If both USC and TCU fall, then we might have real chaos...or the committee could just let tOSU and Bama in and everyone in the country will be pissed off and bored that the same names are always in the tourney.

IMO, OSU is first in line if TCU or USC lose(though I still say there’s a chance TCU at 12-1 might still get in if they lose to KSU since they still will have beaten every team on their schedule).

I think Clemson is definitely a team that is not as good as their record. They are "good enough" to slip by mediocre-bad ACC teams most of the time, but i'd say they are much closer to the level of the 20-25 ranked teams than the top 10.

I don't think winning the ACC really says much this year. Their opponent is a North Carolina team thats record has been better than they really are all year, and who has lost 2 straight home games to a 5-7 Georgia Tech team and 8-4 NC State team who was on their 3rd string QB.

And Clemson is likely a playoff lock with a half ass decent QB. DJU was 8-29 for 99 yards against SCar. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a worse completion percentage for a game

I don't think winning the ACC really says much this year. Their opponent is a North Carolina team thats record has been better than they really are all year, and who has lost 2 straight home games to a 5-7 Georgia Tech team and 8-4 NC State team who was on their 3rd string QB.

This year’s ACC is terrible for sure, and Clemson is way out of the playoff discussion, they’re still a quality win for SCar though

I’d love to be able to watch a 12 team playoff this year. I think we’d have mostly close games in the first rounds. Maybe not at the end, but….

I hate the "quality loss" argument, but i have to invoke it here.
Bama's 2 losses: @Tennessee by 3 and @LSU by 1 in OT
Tennessee's 2 losses: @Georgia by 14 (and it honestly wasn't that close), and @SCAR by 25

If you consider head-to-head in a bubble, then i guess i could see it. But to me, Bama's looks better. For the same reason, i fully expect them to put Bama with their 2 losses above tOSU and their 1 loss.

I heard some talking heads say they felt like Georgia, Michigan and TCU could still get in after CCG losses if said losses are close/well played games. Reasoning is they’d be considered “good” losses. Not sure I agree but they wouldn’t be “bad” ones either.

I think Georgia and Michigan are clearly "top 4 teams" other than that you've got a bunch of meh though. I do think though that we are programmed to just assume Bama is "probably top 4 caliber" because of their recruiting classes.

The SEC teams are weird, LSU, Tennessee, South Carolina could probably all beat each other on the right day. They are probably all "good" teams but I wouldn't call either of them GREAT teams. (Bama is not a GREAT team this year either IMO)

Georgia is the only Great team of the bunch this year.

Georgia is head and shoulders above everyone when they are clicking.

I’m expecting the SEC to bomb in the bowls the conference is just not that strong this year.

That's probably solely based on perceived talent based on the recruiting rankings. Using only that, yes Ohio State is "better equipped" than Michigan TCU and USC

But you have to factor in our dipshit coaches fetish for continuing to roll out things that clearly don't work and then we know we arent as equipped as Michigan and maybe as equally as equipped as TCU and USC.

Bama needed Michigan to lose to Ohio State. The CFP could have had excuses to put them in over Michigan because of Michigan's OOC schedule. With OSU and Bama out of their CCG's -- Bama isn't leap frogging them with 2 losses, IMO.

Will come down to the Utah/USC game -- if USC loses, OSU is in. If USC wins, OSU is out. I think UGA, Michigan and TCU will be no matter what they do in their CCG's.
