What are you reading?

If you haven't already, I can't recommend highly enough that you read Inferno by Max Hastings. You'll come away with a much more complete perspective on the astonishing scale of human suffering that WWII wrought on mankind.
I have. Hastings is a giant in WWII history circles.

I recommend anything by Peter Caddick-Adams. I actually know him, he's also a giant in history circles. Former Royal Army Officer and Historian.

He's written multiple WW2 books, this is #3 in a series, Sand and Steel, Snow and Steel were the first two.

James Holland is another that I recommend.

@HammerDown if you are into WW2, I recommend the podcast We Have Ways Of Making You talk, hosted by Al Murray and James Holland. Besides themselves, they often have guest on including Peter Caddick-Adams and Max Hastings. Both have spoken at the annual "WarFest" they hold in England every year.

Also on Youtube, WW2TV hosted by Pail Woodage. Woody is a great guy and very knowledgeable. I addition to this, he lives in Normandy and is one of the top guides/historians in the area.

also reading Burroughs' Naked Lunch for the first time. I'm finding it very difficult.
I gave up on this. Obviously, I'm "missing something," but this piece of crap reads like a 14 year old's attempt at violent porn fanfiction. I've read Kerouac and Ginsburg and the other beats, but this just isn't literature. I actually GET why this was banned.

Shock for the sake of shock just isn't worth my time.

I utterly detest the sight of James Holland. His mannerisms and accent make my skin crawl. I despise that British thing of pronouncing th as f. "Everyfing we know about Hitler..." I lost all respect for him when he chose to be involved with the Hunting Hitler foolishness. He's not viewed with a shred of respect amongst WWII historians.

I do however love Mark Felton and Woodage/WW2TV on Youtube. :thumb:

I tried it twice and stopped twice. I think you have to be a junkie to get it.

I know he wrote an Arthur trilogy which I haven't read yet. Having said that, Mary Stewart wrote what I thought to be the absolute best trilogy the on King Arthur era I've ever read. The books were published in the 70's and they were riveting. Not sure if you've come across them, but if you like the genre, they are a must read. They are known as 'The Merlin Trilogy" and are titled:
1. The Crystal Cave
2. The Last Enchantment
3. The Wicked Day

Wicked good reads.

Read them long ago.

We have different ideas of "get". No problem, but I don't believe anyone should be banning books. Ban it from your own reading list, but leave your hands off of mine.

Point of order: me saying I understand why it was banned is not the same as saying it SHOULD be banned. I just sympathize with those who felt that it did not add anything to the wealth of literature we already have.

No sympathy, no quarter.

I actually GET why this was banned.
I don't.

started the latest book in the Red Rising series the other night, Light Bringer.

I love that series.

Picked up "A Once Crowded Sky" by Tom King recently. Interesting mix of novel and comic book. The author once worked for DC Comics and also worked for the CIA.

The Story Teller: Tales of Life and Music

Dave Groh

Interesting enough.

I love that series.

I've got it on audible, but it's been so long that I didn't remember the story line. Rather than looking up a recap, I [may have nievly] decided to start back at the beginning with Red Rising during my drives to/ from work.

If there's a "shortish" recap of the books leading up to Light Bringer, I'd be interested.

I listened to the audiobook, read by Grohl. I thought it was really good.

I also listened to it just before his drummer and best friend died...that made the death that much more brutal.

The Rackets - Thomas Kelly

Teamsters, NY Irish, NY mob, etc.

Decent read. Hard to find a hard copy though.
