What are you reading?

reading The Shining and really enjoying it. I need to have some time to really put into it though.

I am considering reading Dr Sleep next...but we will see.

Anyone read Atlas Shrugged? I’m considering it after finding a very nice vintage paperback in LA.

no because I don't have a vagina

but good luck with that

This book was recommended to me by my old Fannation buddy Mick. Some of you may remember him. Just started Chapter 3. It's going to be freakin' epic I think.

Started reading the new book about Ray Dalio and working Bridgewater called "The Fund"

Just starting Muderers Row: The 1927 New York Yankees by G. H. Fleming. 1st Edition 1st Printing. With the Hot Stove League in process, it feels like the right time.

I finished this over the weekend and would highly recommend. I learned more from that book about Truman and the tail end of WWII than I ever did in any history class I took. For example, I never realized that Churchill lost reelection right before the end of the war. It also makes me want to watch "Oppenheimer" now.

read Whalefall last week and I think I need to say it might have been my favorite book of 2023. Damn good writing, engaging character...

I recommend it.

I'm currently about 6 books into the Dresden Files and also reading Burroughs' Naked Lunch for the first time. I'm finding it very difficult.

"Freethinkers: A History of American Secularism" by Susan Jacoby

Very interesting first chapter was she describes the uneasy alliance of atheists and evangelicals to get the 1st Amendment ratified.

Returned to this because it was fun and not so deep - I needed something like this over the break. Now I'm in and will probably read all of them - Alien is my all time favorite and I've been hooked since Aliens came out.

The book seems to have been intended as a follow up of Hicks and Newt after they made it back to earth. I read where Alien3 kinda screwed up that storyline forbthe writer so he replaced the names to pick up the storyline as ANOTHER marine and kid facing their demons 10 years or so later.

Whatever the case, it works fine as a continued story in the Alien franchise and explores more into the Alien homeworld and the people desperate to capture one (this was pre Prometheus and I ignore that as being canon anyway).
