What’s your most controversial opinion?

he was funny but in the present tense you may be right.
I'm talking about his career, but now that he's trying waaaaay too hard, it's tough to watch how dumb he really is.

He's like Chevy Chase and Steve Martin. They could play a funny role when the writing was good, but on their own? Not funny at all.

People act like Bill Murray is funny. He's really not.

I'm mostly with you on this.

Chevy Chase is a bumbling egomaniacal asshole in real life. He had the capability of spinning that into comedy in his early years. If he tried to play a character that wasn't in his wheelhouse, it was a humorless flop.

Bill Murray has better range as an actor than Chevy, but his best characters were also bumbling egomanical assholes.

Steve Martin's best characters were also bumbling - including his stand-up - but was lighter on the egomanical asshole. I give Martin more credit on the "humor", though, because he did have a successful run as a stand-up comic and "The Jerk" is one of the greatest comedies of all time which he also co-wrote.

He doesn't have a single friend in Hollywood and wasn't there a famous quote about him being one of the worst comedians of all-time?

Honestly, I'd put him ahead of Bill Murray.

Not only is Happy Gilmore the best golf movie of all time, it’s also the best hockey movie of all time.

Also, Adam Sandler is hilarious

I've got Murray over Chase, but not by much. ...only because Murray has a little better range... ...Neither of them are funny without that 'bumbling asshole' character.

Besides "Happy Gilmore", when did Sandler trigger you to 'laugh out loud'?

Water Boy
Big Daddy
Little Nicky
Billy Madison
Mr Deeds
Anger Management
Longest Yard
Etc
"The Waterboy" and "Bill Madison" both had amusing quotable Sandler moments, but none of them were laugh-out-loud hilarious. In both movies, it was other characters and movie situations I found most funny, not Sandler. Hell, in "The Waterboy", I thought Kathy Bates and Henry Winkler were just as funny as Sandler - if not more - and that's a pretty telling statement.

I watched the rest of those movies you cited expecting to have my funnybone tickled and walked away disappointed.

Maybe you're just a humorless fuck.

That’s just snobbery I can’t abide by

Big Daddy and Billy Madison are funny!
I like Billy Madison, but it was the situations that were funny, not Sandler. :noidea:

Big Daddy was meh. I expected it to be funnier than it was. Maybe it was built up too much from his previous movies. :noidea:

Math says I'm not completely humorless. In honor of a popular thread today: 353 "Funny" / 996 posts = 0.35 "Funny"/Post

I like Math more than you!:tongue::tongue:

That's objective analysis, my friend.

I don't hate Sandler. I don't love Sandler. He's hit and miss for me.

I rate him higher than Chevy Chase and Bill Murray - if that's worth something...

And my favorite Adam Sandler movie is one he didn't act in - he executive produced: "Grandma's Boy" Now THAT was some legit funny!

I would say I liked early Adam Sandler, but the shtick grew old. I’d argue:

Funny
- Happy Gilmore
- Billy Madison
- Wedding Singer
- Waterboy

Decent
- Big Daddy
- 50 First Dates

Crap
- Pretty much everything else
