Finished first episode. Pretty boring fantasy schlok. Everyone just expositionong in wooden tones. Meh.

But was it accurate to Tolkein lore?
Haven't watched yet, but I don't know how you introduce a story like this without a ton of exposition at the beginning, or viewers are going to be completely lost.

Gonna check it out tonight.

That's my take. Concerning the two trees shown by OP I have to think they are going to give a good deal of back story up front or at least interspersed occasionally in their own story with flashbacks.

They'd have to, otherwise non Tolkien readers will be like

Boss said call it a week at 12, so I am watching now.

I won’t give any spoil discussion, that should be a different thread maybe, or at least wait till everyone has a chance to watch and we can talk here a bit more.

I think it’s going in a good direction and it has me intrigued. I like this Epic Fantasy effort very much more so than that steaming pile of shit excrement vomit called Wheel of Time. Where as that one went out of its way to virtue signal and be woke and changed the story so much as to be unwatchable, this effort hasn’t done so and at least situated the story in a time where the writers have some liberty to make a good story within Tolkein’s world’s historical constraints.

I am pleasantly and unexpectedly delighted so far, I expected WOT. I don’t appreciate a few liberties taken but can live with them. Story looks solid so far IMO.

Promising post. My biggest hesitation with this series was that it's Amazon and the half of the Wheel of Time season that I watched was terrible.

I didn't watch past Lan crying in the Tower. I was done at that point and couldn't take it anymore. Wokest writing ever.

I liked both episodes. The characters are there so far. The house of Durin, Galadriel, Elron, and I'm guessing Gandalf just crash landed out of a falling star and was helped by hobbit folk. So in this, Gandalf came from some unknown place in the cosmos. I don't know of a book that described where wizards came from and how they got here. I don't know of a book that actually went into detail of this timeframe at all.

The way it's being described or laid out so far works for me.

Yep. There isn't a lot of detail in the Silmarillion about this time period, so we can't really complain about it not sticking to canon. I don't particularly like what they've done with Galadriel's character, but who's to say she couldn't have been some heroic mercenary?

Biggest problem is them trying to make another elf-human romantic relationship, but they even point out in the show how it's only happened twice in history.

Yes, a few nit picks for me but nothing over the top WOT style.

I DO tend to wonder where Celeborn is considering he and Galadriel were a thing in Doriath. Guess he was OK with her sailing back to Valinor?

What were Durin I and Durin II looking at in the small chest? I’m hoping they just discovered Mithril silver, cause they made out like it could be a Silmaril.

Previews for the rest of the season showed the Balrog. Ohhhh SHIIIITTTTTT!!!!!!

The book is very clear that the only remaining Silmaril is with Earendel. I thought the same thing, that they were looking at mithril or some other rare metal that will be used to make the rings. If that turns out to be a jewel, I will have to register my disgust on the internet

Also, it looks like Galadriel is headed to Numenor, will be interesting to see if she recognizes Sauron there

I'm thinking it's the Arkenstone.

They found it in the lonely mountain, no? But it was the heart of the mountain, who is to say there isn’t another one in Moria?

Yes...you're right. It was found by Thrain so this isn't the right generation. Thanks.

The point is, outside of a few nit picks I like what I am seeing. These authors seem to know how to do this properly so far And are at least giving consideration to the world building and the fans. Somewhat like how Peter Jackson was forced to add and change a few things in LOTR that really didn’t cause too much of a stink And never really mattered.
