Electric Cars

but why add something else to your house?

you already get electricity and the install for that isn't at all difficult.

are you being stubborn for the sake of being stubborn?
What's difficult about a gas tank? You must not realize 500 gallons is relatively small, hell 1000 would easily fit in the box of an s10

If the power goes out you have energy ready top off the vehicle with a 500 gallon tank.

So many pros to a gas tank installation
what other pros do you have?

so far you have 1

10 ft long, 38 inches in diameter.

and I am sure there are regulations and requirements to bury a tank filled with gasoline that need to go with that cost.

it's a dumb idea, IMO

1? The pros are the same as electric, better even. Sheeeeeeesh

No power no problem, no waiting in gas lines. If you top off daily you're looking at seconds to top off and hang up the fuel delivery apparatus and don't have to do it in the morning

Some people, I swear

You're not thinking fuel cell, square man. 38 inch diameter lol 😂😆 goof

It's the one I was thinking about when I said "tin can".

The cost is definitely the only + on the Bolt from what I can gather.

That Kona and Niro range are low from what I've seen. Both get 30+ more than the Bolt, same with the VW.

It probably works well as a "daily commuter", but I imagine if you're going to get groceries, you're going to bust out your gas car, eh?
But the cost is huge. Because it's hard to justify spending mid $30's to low $40's on a small car. But when you're talking about buying a small gasoline SUV for $25,000 or a small electric SUV for $28,000 -- it's a far more comparable price. When you're talking about $25,000 for $35,000 or $40,000, it just doesn't make sense.

And the range is identical. The 2023 Bolt EUV gets an EPA range of 247, the Kona is 258. The Niro is 238. And the Bolt EV, which is smaller, has a range of 259 -- better than ALL 3 and starts at about $8,000 less.

I'm not sure how much groceries you buy but unless you're doing a Costco run I think the bolt will be fine for us. There's plenty of trunk space for just groceries -- again, has about the exact amount of trunk space as the Chevy Trax we're replacing. And it's really deep if you take out the floor in the trunk (has a removable floor). You could easily stack hundreds of dollars of groceries back there. Here's a guy shoving a folding bike back there:

And you had to hire an electrician and file with the city to get your charger installed, right?
Permit wasn't required for our area. total cost was $925. But that's a permanent modification to our house. It would be easy to argue that it impacts the value of our house in a good way. If we sold the house, it would be a selling point; charging point is already installed in the garage.

you want the tank to be square?

regardless, burying a 500 gal gas tank in your yard is a much bigger headache than installing a EV charger.

Having an installed 500 gallon gas tank isn't a bad idea, it's just an expensive one.

If the power goes out there's usually somewhere in the area that has power that you can charge at. If we're talking about a regional outage like the one in the early 2000's that took out 1/4 of the country...that's a bit different. But that also took out gas stations too. Worst case, though, I have a generator and could absolutely run it for a day to charge the car. And given it's efficiency, would probably only take a couple gallons to do it; which I always have on hand anyway for my mower. Not to mention, we still have a gas car. If power was out to that extent, where would be be driving? During the one in the early 2000's everything was obviously shut down.

or if your car is that low on electric in a power outage...just don't go anywhere.

but like you said, there are ways to solve the problem that don't seem like the end of the world

I just edited that comment to say just that. IF the power is out to that extent, where are you driving anyway? Everything would be closed/canceled.

Neither need to be your problem, both can be done by a professional. Some homes may require a full system upgrade to put in an EV charger if it's on 100 amp service like the older homes/neighborhoods

500 gallon tank seems like a no brainer. And yea what do you have against cubes?

I mean, I have gotten to where my power in my neighborhood has been out and I needed to go somewhere to eat...so it does happen.

but to use that as a basis as to why not to get an electric car is silly and very rare

I'll let you keep making excuses as to why you aren't interested in getting an EV.

they just keep getting more and more petty, IMO

Woa woa woa who said I don't wanna get an EV?

You're getting awfully cringe about it.

Power goes out hurricane coming evacuation orders your car is at 12% boom 🤯

500 gallon tank for the win!!

If you put the correct tires on it will they let you use it on the golf course?

If you disassemble half the car, you can fit an entire golf bag in there.

So, maybe?
