could

but we don't because it isn't really below us on the food chain
You are taking a stupid stance on this. Would an earthworm not be below the food chain of a lion, since it wouldn't eat it because it isn't worth the effort and there are better returns on different animals?

So since we developed to the point we can farm animals, that means we aren't superior in the food chain to a cougar?

That's idiocy.
it isn't that we aren't superior, it's that we don't need to be

we don't NEED to be apex predators because we have these other means of nourishment and food.

at one point we might have been the apex predators because we needed to be in order to survive, but it is no longer the case.

they still NEED to maintain that they are willing to kill everything and anything for their survival.

No, natural predators does not infer they can't get fucked up by something.

A Grizzly is an apex predator, but will back the fuck down from a Bull Moose.
"An apex predator, also known as an alpha predator or top predator, is a predator at the top of a food chain, without natural predators. Apex predators are usually defined in terms of trophic dynamics, meaning that they occupy the highest trophic levels"

we have natural predators. ever go camping? now we do occupy the highest trophic level...i give you that.

Reactions: ill
float in a tube off a cape beach in july, splash around a bit. see what happens.
And dressing like a seal helps to. A black wet suit is spiffy.

Grizzly bears have injured 44 people in Yellowstone National Park since 1979. The park has hosted more than 118 million people so far. Therefore, there's a one in 2.7 million chance of a grizzly bear attacking a human in Yellowstone.

EVER GO CAMPING? WE'RE NATURALLY HUNTED BY BEARS!!! They are just pretty bad hunters it seems.

we do not go and actively kill these other creatures to survive because we do not require it.
So which animals actively kill us to survive?

Our brain is the tool that allows to defend ourselves from any predator and create the tool or method to kill any creature.

We are the top of the food chain.

It's been fun, but all that needs to be written to negate this nonsense already has been.

Enjoy your days.

From that same wiki article even the scientific experts can't agree if we are top dogs or not, so I don't think this group of misfits is going to come to an agreement :suds:

DEFEND

you keep coming up with defenses...against animals that are truly going to kill us if we don't have those defenses.

it is what it is. we have natural predators everywhere we go.

Have any of you ever actually encountered wild predators?

They are TERRIFIED of us. They want NOTHING to do with us. If you are attacked by a wild animal, YOU fucked up. Most will run the fuck away at the mere sight of you.

I don't know if actively hunting and feasting on them makes them the top of the food chain.

but when it comes to it, they would feast on us to live because they eat whatever meat they can get.

have you ever eaten a predator?

Folks hunt and eat bear. I've heard of people eating cougar as well.

If I saw a moose shoot a human from a helicopter from 200 yards, I'd probably change my mind.

I can see both sides of this, but I am unable to make a stipulation that the human can't use tools. It's what humans do.

That's because it would disingenuous. As many have stated, that ability is part of our evolution, no different from a lion's claws or teeth. You can't allow one and discount the other.

Ok. The fact that we have perfected killing other animals to such a degree we can do it for fun is more proof of our domination over the animal kingdom.

For fun.

More proof of our slide into the dumper....

That reminds me of a time when I was walking through a path in the woods by where I grew up and I spooked up a black bear. It was laying off to the side of the path about 20 feet in. Fucker jumped up and booked ass away from me. I may have shit myself ... allegedly.

it has nothing to do with what we have at our disposal, it just has to do with instincts.

a predator's natural instinct is to kill it's prey for food...to survive.

if we are going into this with "protect" and "defend" then it is clear we are not the predator in this scenario.
