GAME 2023 NFL Draft Thread

@RobBase (c) the lions overdrafting RB made it easy for the Eagles to fill a needed hole with a 2 years in the future 4th round pick.

Not trying to be a downer. That Gibbs pick was brutal though, when you look at the entire picture.

#12 pick on a guy not even big enough to be the feature back... and do essentially what the guy you're getting rid of for a 4th in 2025 did.

Took him right where they needed to take him (ahead of NYJ), upgrading a prime component on O by replacing an often injured player while adding 4 starters + our future signal caller.

Grade - A

There's 0 reason to think NYJ was taking Gibbs. Rumors are rumors, as we saw repeatedly in this draft and how it ended up going, but that's one of the least logical destinations for him imaginable.

Sounds to me like maybe Jamarcus Russell wasn't such a bad pick, I mean he definitely wouldn't have been there when the Raiders picked again :noidea:

I think we got some nice pieces that fit our team, but if they plan being a super bowl contender -- getting a top 5-6 pick won't be happening any time soon, so they should have used it to take a swing at a Premium Position. Picking a RB who won't be a bell cow RB is a poor use of resources that high.

Overall -- I like that we got players who can help us now, but with 5 picks in the top 68, we spent 1 pick on a premium position. We didn't draft a CB, in arguably one of the most talented CB classes in years, we didn't draft a DE to pair with Hutch, we didn't draft a top DT, I don't blame them for not drafting a WR, as it was a weak class. Our 1 pick on a premium position was to draft a backup QB at 68.

Christian Gonzalez should have been the pick at 12. CJG is on a 1 year deal. Sutton is on a 1 year deal. Thohse aren't solutions, those are 1 year stop gaps. We traded Okudah, so next year, we will bare at the CB position.

I like the draft for how it shapes us up for the upcoming year, as the picks will be on the field helping us. In 2024 though -- it will leave us with needs to fill at premium positions where it will cost us a fortune to fill it in free agency. where as you can fill positions like change of pace RB for cheap, MLB for cheap, TE for cheap.

I do like the value on the Branch and Hooker picks. Also think the 7th WR from NC will make the team out of camp and fill the role left by Williams being out for 6 games.

I'd give us a B- on the draft. If Hooker because a quality starting QB in the NFL and replaces Goff with Detroit not skipping a beat though -- I will give us an A

Taking a player from Rodgers is an extra bonus.

How angry is Philly that the Rams took Stetson Bennett in R4??

Thing is, I think both Gibbs and Campbell will be good players, but those just aren't spots to use premium picks on. If you're paying Monty $6m a year, you don't spent the 12th pick on a complimentary back. Like you said, Gonzalez or any of the other highly rated CBs should have been the pick. Hell, I think it would've made even more sense for them to double dip CB in the first round than go for a RB and off ball LB. If you wanted a complimentary back to Monty, I thought Achane from A&M would've made a lot more sense in the 3rd round.

Branch was a really nice pick, and he's going to help fill the void when CGJ likely leaves, but like you said - the cupboard is bare after that. Hooker and LaPorta were really good picks, but they could've done way more with the window they have open.

The guys everyone else pays attention to:
