Post what non-beer you're drinking

Found a bottle of Blanton's last week. Was 140 after tax. Felt lucky to get it.
Have you ever had it before buying that bottle?

Geeze, I have 2 bottles of ETL. One I paid $40 for. The other was $100 (and I was reluctant to pay that). I can't believe the bourbon prices these last few years.
I've tried ETL a couple of times, and for $40 I'd be all over it. $100 is probably at the point I'd have to decline, I can see why you were reluctant. Don't get me wrong, it's a really good bottle if you like the sweet (and I do), but fuck me, the secondary price is just idiotic.

Yes. Over the years, I've gone through many a bottle of Blanton's. Back when it could be had for a reasonable price. I've still got several bottles squirrelled away, but since they seem to have gotten scarce, it was hard to turn down one more.

I agree, the prices these days are out of control. Considering how the prices have gotten, I can still barely believe that good aged bourbon like Russell's Reserve 10yr and Bulleit 10yr can be readily found at regular prices. I've seen Henry McKenna 10yr go from $30 per bottle to closer to a hundred. Hell, It wasn't that long ago I was buying Weller 12 for $30 off the middle shelf, but now, if you ever even seen any, it's like $500 and it's just not worth that.

Blanton's moves consistently in central Ohio for $110, up from about $90 in 2020. OWA goes for around $90 when it used to be $70 also. Frankly, I think there are plenty of good bottles that I'd take over those ones anymore. For me, Russell's just doesn't miss. I'm not ponying up $325 for the 13yr but the 10yr is easily as good at it's price point. I've also gotten very much into the Penelope offerings recently as well as Pinhook. Definitely recommend either of them if you see them.

Down here in Texas, you don't even see OWA anymore. At any price. I was never really a fan anyway, but it's a good barometer of price changes apparently.

I was wondering about the price point on Russell's 13yr. There are a couple of joints down here that have some, but I just couldn't see them as being worth the price when the usual 10yr is so steady at such a lower price.

I've never seen Penelope or Pinhook before. I'll keep an eye out though. Thanks for the recommendation.

I've decided that any individual that buys a bottle of bourbon with the sole intention of reselling it for profit is a faggot.

Sazerac Rye is very underrated. I know it's hard to get in some places, but it's all of Texas and Louisiana.
Yeah, for a cheap rye, I like it a lot.

It's hard to get around here, but any podunk liquor store in the middle of buttfuck NY will have shelves of it. So fucking annoying.

I used to go do the lines and wait for something good but then I realized how stupid it was when you're just as likely to find something delicious sitting on the shelf. I'm never going to go line up at 5am like I've seen some assholes do, and yes, the people that are taking the pictures in their cars to immediately put on the trading/sales groups are huge fucking bitches.

Sure thing. I just finally bought a Pinhook a few weeks ago but I'll always have it in the house. It's like $39 here and drinks 3 times as expensive IMO. Penelope Barrel Strength, Architect, and Toasted are also fine offerings that are usually under $65. Also, Barrell Bourbon has some great stuff. Then there's 4 Roses single barrel and small batch select that are always sitting on shelves and never disappoint. Allocated bottles are for losers.

Yeah, fuck lining up and fuck paying a premium. Like you said, I'll grab something off the shelf, enjoy it just fine and not look like a faggot.

How much of that shit do those twats have to do to make any real money? Just get a fucking job, douchbags, and leave the liquor to us drunks.

Based on the secondary prices I see on some shit, a lot. A couple of weeks ago a bunch of EHT Straight Rye hit Columbus which I think is $50 retails and it was selling on secondary for $225-250.

Idaho stores released some limited edition Maker's a few weeks ago. Different finishing stave options. Snagged a bottle of Wise Woman and opened it last weekend. Had a bottle of Maker's 46 and tried both side by side. Wise Woman was a little spicier up front like a rye but the finish was damn good. Not sure if it's worth the upgrade in price from the 46 but glad I spent the time to go get it.

I guess, but how much/how often can you get a 400% return? When all that stuff hit Cbus, could you buy all the liquor store had, or do they ration it?

Usually, these stores ration out allocated or rare products.

They ration it normally, one bottle per person, but dudes will have their wives, cousins, kids, parents go to all the different ones and get the bottles for them too. It's a lot of bullshit.

Which whisky or liquor surprised you the most? Like it was much better than you expected or so much better than the price indicated.

In terms of value for the price, what is your go-to tequila and vodka?

In Michigan, I ran across Driftless Glen Bourbon. It's made in Wisconsin and I was like, WTF? But I think it's pretty damn solid. It's not cheap, but I wasn't expecting much because Wisconsin.

Value to price it's hard to beat Milagro silver and Tito's Vodka.

However, I really only drink silver in margaritas. My go to tequila is Casamigos Repasado, the nectar of the Gods. It's spendy, but worth it.

I keep Tito's and Chopin (my favorite) vodkas on hand.

How about you?

The biggest surprise whisky for me was Rebel Yell 10yr. Let's face it, Rebel Yell is a bottom shelf bourbon and I wasn't expecting much from the more aged version. It blew me away. Then, after it was on the market for 5 years or so, it disappeared and I've never seen it again. I've still got a couple of bottles on hand, but I've never seen a nonallocated whisky just disappear like that.

Straight Edge Bourbon and Slaughter House American Whiskey were also surprisingly good to me, as was Very Old Barton 90 (I didn't care for Very Old Barton 80 or 100).

Good to know. i've been seeing the casamigos tequila commercials lately and I was wondering about their products.

My best value tequila is El Jimador silver for margaritas. If it's reposado for sipping and sech, I like Espolon for the price.

I used to like higher dollar vodkas, but the best vodka I have found for the money is Sobieski. I can get a 750ml for $12. It's a rye vodka from Poland. Quite a bit cheaper than Titos. It's great in mixed drinks, but it's also great straight, when taken out of the freezer.

I was hesitant at first because I don't really get into celebrity brands, but the reposado is bangin'. It's not cheap - around $55 for a fifth. I'd skip the blanco and anejo - they aren't bad, but I don't think they're remarkable. I haven't tried the mezcal.

Yeah, that's way less expensive that Tito's and I consider Tito's to be relatively cheap. Chopin has dropped in price quite a bit over the last several years.

I don't mix vodka very often. Just on on the rocks. Occasionally in the summer I'll put some soda and orange slices in it.
