2024 Recruiting Thread

Williams is a 5*, this isn't Hugh Freeze sniffing out talent. Also, this isn't about getting him to campus, it's about coaching him up so he develops, something Freeze has struggled mightily with. Also, as I mentioned, Auburn doesn't have a QB.

He got two WR's drafted at Liberty, and like I mentioned had all those guys at Ole Miss. I'm gonna guess the QB play will be figured out and be fine.

Treadwell was a 5* and Brown/Metcalf were high 4*. Also, he didn't get them drafted, they never played for him. All he did was get them to the college (likely via impermissible benefits, hence the scandal). None of those guys you mentioned did anything under Freeze other than Treadwell one season. So, yeah, playing in a "Freeze offense" means nothing.

He was only at Ole Miss for 5 seasons, and had 3 WR's drafted during that time frame(Moncrief, Treadwell and Core). Yes, AJ and DK played for him in 2016. And Jefferson played for him in 2016 as well. Whether or not playing in that offense means anything or not, guys he has recruited get to the league.

3 WRs in 5 years is impressive now? AJ played sparingly and DK hardly at all as true freshmen in 2016, he had nothing to do with them becoming who they are today, or even who they were when they were drafted. Moncrief was a late 3rd, Core was a late 6th, and clearly Treadwell was a massive over-reach who lived off his 5* recruit reputation.

"Guys he has recruited get to the league" means literally nothing, considering the number of coaches who can say that. There's no such thing as a "Freeze offense", especially not one notable enough to confidently assume a WR is going to instantly be a stud. This is an incredibly illogical argument, and I'm sure you're aware of that.

If he wouldn't have gotten fired, he would have had 6 in 7 years...at Ole Miss. He's good at taking WR's and getting them to the NFL. He also had a couple at Liberty. If I'm a 5* WR playing under Freeze is a great opportunity to get the NFL. Just like it is at other schools. Freeze's track record is pretty good. Ole Miss has only had 2 guys drafted at WR since Brown and DK. So yeah, 6 in a 7 year period I'd say is pretty impressive.

Yeah except he gets no credit for DK or AJ. Those are Matt Luke guys who Matt Luke put in the NFL. Freeze was good at committing recruiting infractions to get high-4*/5* guys to campus who would've made it to the NFL under any number of regimes in college football. Also, there are 3 former Ole Miss WRs in the NFL since DK/AJ were drafted, which was 5 years ago, meaning that's 3 in 5 years...I thought that was super impressive?

I mean, I just keep making good points. What's being taken personally?
those aren't good points.. never knew you didn't like Freeze that much.. from him not being able to recruit a top kid, to then switch by saying he hasn't developed them lol

he's recruited, he's evaluated and he's put in non bluechips into the draft.

He basically only had 4 recruiting classes at Ole Miss since he was hired in December of 2011. Those 4 classes produced 6 NFL WR's. At Ole Miss that's pretty damn good.

And maybe I missed one but Moore and Mingo are the two that have been drafted since then.

I've got nothing against Freeze, I'm pretty indifferent about him. All I know is there's no "Freeze offense" you talk about that ensure these WRs are going to be studs, especially with no QB. Just doesn't add up.

Malik Heath, he's on the Packers. Didn't put up big numbers this year, 15/125/1, but that's more than Core ever put up and way more than Treadwell this season.

Again, I understand he got DK and AJ, but they were both MS boys to begin with and neither did anything under his coaching. The guys who did actually play for him fell on their faces in the pros, and none of them really put up crazy stats ever in college, hence the "Freeze offense" statement that I find ridiculous. End of the day, it doesn't seem likely that Ryan Williams is going to be doing much at Auburn and would be better served elsewhere.

*Edit: Cody Core had 2 similar seasons in the 2010s and that's all he did

I think we're arguing two different things. I don't really care about his offense(though he did have an elite offense in 2015) I'm saying I don't blame WR recruits for signing with him and if one does they shouldn't be labeled a headache or whatever you said earlier.

And Heath wasn't drafted and spent one year at Ole Miss, if I can't count AJ and DK, you can't count this guy. Lol.

If you have the option to go to any number of schools these days with high-powered offenses but instead go to Auburn, I'm saying you have NIL money on your brain and everything else is a distant second. Their offense was pathetic last year, and they don't have a QB. And before you try and say "well it was Freeze's first year", remember he hand-picked Payton Thorne and got his doors blown off by New Mexico State at home.

NIL is pretty much a factor in a lot of decisions. I'm sure OSU threw a shit ton at Smith. Yes, their offense was pathetic last year. That means he can see the field and see the field a lot.

Are you upset he doesn't want to go to OSU or something? I don't know anything about this kid, and wouldn't have if he didn't commit. I am genuinely curious.

Out of all people on this board, I'm sure you know I don't care about any WR not going to OSU. We're perpetually good.

I guess I don't understand why him going to Auburn would make him a massive headache? Maybe the kid wants to stay close to home? Going from Bama to Auburn shouldn't be all that surprising.

he's also a legacy to Auburn (his dad played there)

It was all a scheme then. Commit to Bama early and take up a spot. Decommit late in hopes they can't replace you and go to Auburn
