23-24 Portal boyz

i'm just glad that my school doesn't have to scoop so low and pay a Safety over a million to come save my secondary....

Defense was already going to be good, but good isn't good enough.

Significant news for Arizona. Arizona should be one of the contenders in the Big 12 next year.

I’m happy they are, they have a good team returning next year. I’m hoping we play them in November so I can leave the East coast cold for November Arizona weather for a few days.

Some of that definitely went to keeping some of the draft eligibles here. Burke was a fringe first round/early 2nd round. Guarantee he got some money. JT and Sawyer, Emeka, Trey, Tyleik, those guys made money too

I’m sure most of it went to keeping those guys for another year. You got idiots out here (Michigan fans mostly, who ignore they had like 8/9 major contributors from the portal on their title team) acting like we are building a whole team with the portal lol.

A billionaire donor at Ariz said he was so pissed at Fisch leaving he ponied up NIL to limit the number of players who would follow him.

Couldn't pony up before the HC he loved left and throws it in his face after he does open the wallet.

Lost in most of the hate coming from zona fans/donors/etc is, it wasn't just Fisch that got a BIG raise. He made a decision that made life changing levels of pay to a good number of his staff.

Want to save Arizona football? Support them with your wallet before it's so bad you have staff leaving. It's awesome you were able to retain the heart of your roster. It's sad your new HC isn't making much more than he did at a G5. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

The Big 12 isn't going to be hard to remain competitive in if you can manage to keep feeding that NIL system and support that staff.

so like last offseason between McCord and Devin?
Will Howard transfers in and is pretty much put on a choke chain. Dude has two guys that played some last season and two 5* freshmen right behind him.

Does he even win the starting job?
Yeah I don't see how Howard isn't the starter and I don't see how tosu fans won't be calling for Sayin by October lol

I think it will be Wiz. Maybe not early, but as the discrepancy in media revenue compounds each additional year it will.

Donors will have to make up that $50 million/year difference every year. And that is just to get to the starting point to on salaries and NIL.

I think the ACC will have the same issue but maybe to a lesser extent.

I think he's got a full year to try and build up draft stock, maybe be a mid-round pick if all goes well. Brown is gone, and honestly I wouldn't be shocked if Linc was also. They may need to bring in another Gebbia type to provide experienced depth, but that would be my guess.

Will their big boosters keep blaming the coaches who left, or put blame on the institution as well as the system itself when it gets worse then?

It isn't just this booster. Every post from Fisch, or about Fisch is attacked by a lot of upset Zona hate.

Those fans can get upset all they want. But 9 out of 10 coaches are going to take the money… and the money is going to be in the P2.

Only those rare birds are going to say “ $5.5 million is enough for me. I like my situation here better than that $8 million one.”

They could definitely go up another $3 mil to keep the coach. But it will probably be at the expense of compensation for assistants, non rev coaches, etc.

Well not taking into a talent aspect, yes, but I really don't see how Howard isn't just given the starting job. Freshman are still freshman. Only way he loses the starting job is if he starts off the season in a disaster and they have no choice but to replace him. His job is safe. The freshman can battle it out next year unless one of them transfers.

Those issues impact everyone. The problem for Zona is they are over 200m in debt. They are in very bad shape on top of the other revenue changes going on.

I'm not bothered by fan hate and Zona fans can pile on all they want. Just kind of feel sad for them and a bit perplexed they aren't focusing more of their frustration on their school leadership given how badly they have managed their money.

UW may have roster issues right now, but they aren't bleeding cash in crisis like UCLA and Zona.

The money issues are going to crush several schools over the next 4 to 5 years. Some won't make it.

don't fret.. Big12 money and the penalty paid by UT will help them with that shortfall... oh wait...
