What Does UCLA do?

Day and Kelly have an extensive history together.

"In pivoting from O'Brien to Kelly, whose move from being the head coach at UCLA to being the offensive coordinator at Ohio State will come with a significant pay cut, Day is reuniting with a mentor, a friend and someone who coached him during his own playing career at New Hampshire from 1998-2001. He later joined Kelly's coaching staffs with the Eagles (2015, quarterbacks coach) and 49ers (2016, quarterbacks coach) before the Buckeyes hired him as their co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach seven years ago, toward the latter stages of Meyer's tenure. Day and Kelly have remained close, and in close contact, ever since."

Not sure if correct but I heard he was taking a $4M pay cut. Plus he would have gotten paid for the buyout if he stayed and got fired. So it is pretty obvious to me it wasn't about money. So it had to be "about" him in some form or fashion, ego, legacy, feeling UCLA can't/won't win, etc.

On the flip side, he will ONLY be making about $2M/year at tOSU. I just don't know how anyone can possibly survive on ONLY $2M/year.
Especially, since Chip has a net worth of like 25 million.

You obviously don't have the appreciation of what you need to "party hardy" the RIGHT way!!! :eyebrows:

:pop2::martini:

Hoping his replacement is PJ Fleck.

"I wrote at the time that Kelly was more likely to end up at UCLA. He's always been an offensive innovator. Even when his Oregon teams were at their peak, he seemed more interested in drawing up plays than recruiting kids to play in his offense. His approach to recruiting didn't make sense for what Florida wanted, as Dan Mullen later found out, and UCLA felt like a better fit for Kelly."

His brother Brian’s new contract is worth about 70 million in future earnings so he probably right now is worth close to that and will triple it even if he gets fired.

It’s nuts.

Who?

Not sure if true, but it’s being reported one of the interviewees at UCLA was…….Jed Fisch lololololol

problem with Chip is that he hates recruiting.. look at the recent class he brought in.. guy been whoring himself out for a gig in the NFL and he continuingly got passed up..

He's been complaining about the direction of CFB with the portal and all that and he just gave up.. Guess he's betting on himself that with the talent tosu has he can make the offense look elite that could net him an OC gig in the NFL next year.

i read some of the stuff ucla fans have been upset with him about.. he gave up.. he doesn't take recruits on OVs to nice restaurants in the city..but has food ordered and they eat at the training tables.. OVs usually last 2 days but he only has it for 1 day... Chip is easily blaming the school but people are saying it wasn't the schools fault he just didn't care

If the guy just wants to coach football I don't blame him. He's in a perfect spot to build his reputation back up while Day handles all the rest of that shit.

Feel like UCLA might actually be better off without him.

I think it is a good fit for him, but he probably bails for the NFL as soon as someone says yes

I wouldn't be surprised. I thought it was odd he signed a 3-year deal but I don't think anyone sees him being here that long if he can land an NFL job. The end goal here is for him to coach at least a year, and then Hartline takes over as full-time OC calling plays whenever Kelly leaves.

I don’t see the NFL saying yes. Chip’s system doesn’t work in the NFL. There are elements but you can’t hang your defense out to dry with one minute 3 and outs in the NFL and win.

He most likely will take a backseat role in recruiting, focus on offense and finish his career in Columbus.

If he can be successful at OSU maybe he'll just go back to New Hampshire and coach there to finish up. Can't imagine the recruiting would be difficult for him.

No way he goes to a back water program where he can’t fly first class, stay in the best hotels and have a massive expense account.

Chip has standards.

He doesn’t want any part of having to clean the locker room himself in order to save cash.

I wouldn't call it "back water", it's an hour north from downtown Boston. He's 60, if he's wanting to slow down and coach without massive responsibilities while enjoying some nostalgia, he could do much worse. Plus, no state income tax.

Minus -- that state is Ohio.
