Yeah I mean hard to say forsure since hes so unproven. But thats kinda the issue. Seems like it was safe, cheap and diversity oriented.

Not the worst hire of all time or anything, just kinda a let down for now. We will see though. Hopefully he can get people to stay home.

I don't get this hire. It's not like Xavier has recruited good since he's been there, and yeah he helped land Coffey, but what about the other 8 top 50 players that the Gophers didn't get? Christ what a letdown. I don't see how this goes anything but poorly. This is going to be 4 years of total shit until he's canned. I'm genuinely not this pessimistic, but this is a bad hire IMO.

I'm going to root for him, obviously, but if they hired him because he's a good recruiter, that doesn't make much sense because he hasn't done that great of a job at Xavier, or his time with the Gophers as an assistant. It would have been nice to hire someone who has proven something even if it was at a G5 school.

He left as Oturu was coming in, but in his defense he did help recruit him. Oturu was a borderline top 50 guy though. Don't get me wrong, he was awesome to have, but it wasn't like landing a top 25 guy that was a five star though.

JG's defense of Johnson hire was talking about his ties to local AAU programs. Apparently they interviewed Ben Jacobsen too, that's who I wanted.

Agreed, but he turned down programs like Kansas and Baylor to stay home.

I understand that he has connections to Minnesota, but he had that as an assistant too. But he was an assistant at Xavier, a program that has missed 3 consecutive ncaa tournaments after being a 1 seed in 2018, under his watch as an assistant. They recruited better before he got there, and they declined as a program since he's been there. Honestly their HC is probably on the hot seat entering next season. We didn't even hire an assistant at a top tier program. It's just disappointing, but I'll support him and hope he does well.

Sometimes you just run into a better team. Not looking forward to getting boatraced by Gonzaga in the E8.

If Gonzaga decides to simultaneously not guard the 3 or protect the paint and instead just decides to stand around for 40 minutes Oregon has a great shot.
 
Oh. Weird. Another Michigan game. Another basketball game where the first 3/4 means nothing. Maybe I’ll watch the last 5 minutes.
