Leap of faith - religion or science?

Do you know why Christmas is called Christmas?
Yep!
you also know for the most of society nowadays that isnt what they are celebrating right?
It is all pagan rituals. to convert them. Then there is the nowaday people that are clueless it was ever a religious holiday.

oh, so this thread went heavy into how religion is bullshit. can't argue against that. cool when it's used for good, but end of the day, is it ever? like yeah, at it's forefront it was about building communities, it strayed far away from that through the years.

Before Christ or “BC” is an interesting part of history. Seeing that there was a lot that happen before Christ n sech.

wiki even believes

"Nothing happened before Jesus/God(same dude), cuz people told me that when I grew up." The simple fact of most religions, is they preach indoctrination, obviously. So, what ever family you are born into, chances are you be affiliated with that religion. You wouldn't be born in India, and suddenly become Mormon, or a witch doctor, likely.

I'm not shitting on religion, and I think the beliefs of most religions are foundationally good from the stand point of community and trying to be a "better" ( just being decent to people and helping when you can) person. I dont like many other things about it.

I also understand that religion does help many people with their internal struggles, and the church(s) have done great amounts of good in the world. It has also been the cause of more death and destruction than anything else that ever existed in our world, besides whatever happened to the dinosaurs.

Sure, there have been and will probably be more "leaps of faith" in the progress of science...for lack of a better term.

Heck, I'll theorize that a great majority of scientific endeavor ended in ruin.

In recent times, the LHC is a prime example of a "leap of faith". Now, it was created on the basis of multiple previous experiments and the mathematics of Quantum Physics but at the end of the day they weren't 100% sure they were going to get the results they needed to find Higgs Boson et al.

Religion on the other hand is based solely on belief...unless you want to count the Kook religions, some of those are very valid as their scope is quite narrow. Jim Jones was the most fucked up son of God ever....right? I mean...are you going to buy-in to a bunch of stories from sheepherders from thousands of years ago who detail some mind-blowing metaphysical shit the majority of which cannot be verified OR are you going to sell-out to the guys who state "We don't know everything, but we're gonna try!"?

so much  here

God and Jesus are not the same. Jesus died on this earth. It’s part of history. Was the Roman Empire a myth? Pontius Pilate not real as well?

why do we have a timeline in history of BC or before Christ?

If you haven’t tapped into the power of God I would say give it a try at least. Lol

But you have to let Go and pray to the almighty. I’m living proof it’s all possible. Blessed beyond blessed

I guess the question must be asked ... Do you believe in a creator or do you take an atheist view of things:

Creator is a leap of faith that someone or something outside of our current created our Universe.

Atheism is a leap of faith that spontaneous matter, spontaneous energy and spontaneous life all happen.

I think that imperialism has been the cause of death and aristocrats have used religion as a motivator for the peasants to fight on behalf of the rulers.

It is a smaller leap of faith for me to side with the creator, because I cannot understand how something comes from nothing ... I can't even explain what nothing is.

People have been attributing things they cant understand to "god(s)" since forever, simply because they don't understand them.

The only thing I KNOW, is I don't know. I don't rule out the possibility of something bigger, that I cant understand.

I also don't think that simply because I don't understand something, it has to have been created by a higher being. I feel like thats a huge cop out.

It doesnt make any sense to me that the entire universe, as we know it, was created just so we could live on earth, and have our own personal god.

I think people are very self important, and pretty insignificant in the big scheme of the universe. They cant bring themselves to think that when they die its just over. They need eternal life. I would bet there is life on other planets. If there is bacteria and fungus on other planets, is that from the creator, or did it just happen?

I honestly think bacteria and fungus are the first alien life forms, and have been here for a VERY long time, and through multiple mass extinctions. Does the creator love them more than us or dinosaurs? I mean, bacteria has been found that they estimate to be over 3 billion years old. We cant even wrap our minds around that kind of time. Lots of things, mutations, and adaptations can happen in that time.

Short answer, I'm more atheist than anything, I guess. I dont rule out anything though, and would never tell someone they are wrong, until they pull that shit on me. As I have said before, you can believe whatever you want, it doesn't mean I have to. Believing is not KNOWING.

but you can’t get behind the Bible because “it doesn’t count” in history. You’re basically picking and choosing what’s real history and what’s not. Even though there are very few records of anyone back then. Pontius Pilate was real. Go check out how the man died lol

No, the video clearly lays out where the story of Jesus came from.
