2022 Season Thread

So I guess we're down to Truex and Blaney now.

New winner, they're both out.
Blaney wins, Truex is out.
Truex wins, Blaney is out.
Repeat winner I suppose Truex is out, there's no way to make up 25 points in a single race is there?

Reading up on points and I guess it's possible for Truex to outpoint \|Blaney if Blaney wrecks out early and Truex finishes very well. I used to know all this stuff but it's changed so much.

You have the stage points too. It’s very possible to make up 25 points, but Blaney has proven to be really good at plate tracks and Truex has never been great at em. Blaney needs to wreck early and Truex needs to stay out of trouble.

If the team mates are working together and Logano gets to pushing Blaney, anything is possible.

When Logano gets behind Harvick I get all nervous.

Truex missed a golden opportunity to close the gap yesterday. Blaney got zero stage points and finished 20 something. But Truex also got zero stage points and only finished one spot ahead of Blaney. But either way, they both have to know the system is stupid and it’ll take an epic collapse for Chase Elliott to not be the real champion this year

Logano and Keselowski need to be walled at the start of every plate race. At least one of them causes a big one every time

Given Kurt Busch's ongoing issues, I wouldn't put it past NASCAR to just put both Blaney and Truex in.

A couple thoughts:

For anyone who thinks Larson was somehow "wrong" for that final restart into turn one - seriously? What, praytell, is the 5 supposed to do there? "Play nice" and let golden boy win? If I'm Larson, I'd use him up too. There's not a lot of great passing zones at WG, and on a restart you have to get what you can get...the final restart in a racing series where wins are HUGE, and the regular season is winding down. You ABSOLUTELY use up the outside car to gain an advantage. This teammate BS is exactly that, BS. They're not teammates anymore at that point. They each have sponsors, fans, their own pit crews, etc who all deserve their driver driving elbows up and getting everything he can when he can get it. I hate Larson AND Elliott, but nothing wrong happened there. Truth be told, if my driver is in that exact situation and ends up 2nd or 3rd because he was being "nice" or a "good teammate", i'd be pissed. Same with the teams and sponsors. Elliott chose his lane knowing the risks. Larson overdrove the turn and used up the outside car knowing that was literally the victory if he does so successfully. No one was wrong...it was fkn racing. I'm about tired of hearing this "but..but..but...it's his TEAMMATE!" So?

If no new winner...Blaney will be in, Truex will be out. Which, in my opinion, is the way it ought to be. Blaney has been far more consistent and frankly better than the 19 this year, and it'd actually be a shame if it's the other way around.

My money, though, is actually on a new winner. It's Daytona. I'd say that McDowell, Wallace, Dillon, etc have an equal or greater chance of winning than Blaney or Truex, and it's going to be checkers or wreckers. I'm looking forward to the show, regardless. Superspeedway, Saturday night, under the lights. LFG

I don’t think Larson was wrong, I think Elliott has a right to be pissed though, and like you, I hate both. Biggest disappointment was Allmendinger not taking both of them out. He had a chance and you know good damn well either one of them would have dumped him.

I’m pretty well over super speedways. They’ve become just as gimmicky as the championship format these days. I was fine when it was just Daytona and Talladega, but now Atlanta is one too and rumor has it Texas could be as well. Over saturation

If dinger would have cleaned them both out I would have been beyond ecstatic. Would have made my week. NASCAR would have probably DQ'd him for it (a non-points driver cleaning out two golden boys and the previous two Series Champs en route to another playoffs -- my goodness that would have been ugly) which is likely why he didn't do it. Dinger is a smart cat.

With the superspeedways, the unpredictability draws me in. Gimmicky? Maybe, but at the same time, it's vintage NASCAR as well. High speed close quarter unpredictable racing will always be must-see tv for me. Add to it the playoff implications, and for my money it doesn't get a whole lot better. It'll be the only thing on my schedule Saturday night other than drinking Lord Chesterfield's Ale.

Kurt is in. He can even miss the first two races of the “playoff” and win the third race of the round of 16 and move on. But both Blaney and Truex are more deserving than Rubberhead

Kinda wish McDowell was in Dinger’s position to see what would happen.

I’ve got an in person fantasy draft at my buddy’s house on Saturday followed by a party. I’m sure the race will be on one of his TVs, but I’ll be focused more on the Braves game since they are in a real playoff push

Go Phillies!!

:hat:

What they did against the Mets over the weekend is unforgivable. Lost every ounce of respect I had for Wheeler and Nola. Only real pitcher Phillies faced was Bassitt, and still managed to lose 3 of 4 while the Braves were busy taking 2 of 3 from the Astros and lost a half game in the standings. Phillies passed the Dodgers for my most hated team

Yeah they completely fell apart. Annoyed me too, obviously

3 games left against the mets. 3 games behind. no excuses not to win division

Oh I know he's in. I'm just saying I wouldn't put it past NASCAR to let the others in knowing there's a solid chance Kurt can't race. They make stuff up as they go along all the time and both guys are pretty popular drivers, which is all they care about. I can easily see them letting it play out this weekend for the "who is gonna make it" drama. Then sometime next week going "Kurt's not gonna be able to race. Surprise, both guys are in!"

That wouldn’t surprise me at all. The playoffs will forever be a farce to me, but they need to make it top 20 instead of top 30 in points for a single win to get you in. If Cole Custer fucks around and wins at Daytona, two top 5 guys in points aren’t gonna make it

I would laugh so hard...
