2022 Season Thread

See, I have a problem with this narrative. Make no mistake, I'm not a NASCAR apologist. I've no problem calling them out on BS (see: the borderline retarded decision to run these cars in a street race in Chicago. SO fkn dumb). But the narrative that they "change the rules as they go in order to appease drivers, owners, or fans just really isn't actually true. The only time NASCAR has changed the rulebook mid-season is if there is a clear and obvious safety issue. Other than that, the waiverable rules are clearly defined ahead of time. For example, when Kyle Busch missed almost the entire half of a season, but was still allowed into the playoffs and eventually won the Championship. Me personally? I thought it was hot garbage. But the drivers, owners, and quite frankly the fans knew that NASCAR possessed that power under the rules before the season ever started.

As it pertains to Busch, if you think for ONE second that if he was healthy and able to drive his car and participate in the Playoff that he would just sit idly by nice and quiet while NASCAR tells him "no Kurt, we're going to say you're still too injured to drive so we can let 'driver x' into the playoffs" you're delusional and out of your mind. Kurt would NEVER sit quietly and let that happen, it isn't in his nature. If Kurt isn't driving the car, it's because he's not healthy enough to do so. End of story.

And how many seasons did Dale Jr miss the Chase or Playoff? And he was the most golden boy of golden boys. Jeff Gordon missed at least once. Johnson. The list goes on of "golden boys" who everyone seems to think NASCAR does some dirty back door shit to "prop up" who have missed the Chase/Playoff due to lack of performance. NASCAR isn't pulling any strings, and they aren't doing backdoor sweetheart deals. The racing is what it is. I think the vast majority of fans would love to see both the 12 and the 19 in the Playoff. But one of them won't be...and if Kurt indeed ends up NOT being able to drive, it won't be some backroom conspiracy theory bullshit, it'll be because his noggin is still screwed up.

These conspiracy theories only make people sound really dumb. Don't be silly.
NASCAR once kicked Truex out of the Chase and added a 13th spot in what was supposed to a 12 man chase to include Jeff Gordon. Truex got the shaft and he was the least guilty party

And FTR if you’re gonna have a playoff where winning a race gets you in, having the regular season finale at a plate track is asking for trouble. A desperation move at Richmond might ruin one driver’s race. A desperation move at Daytona might take out half the field and have a car getting airborne

I agree with Truex being the least guilty, but NASCAR absolutely had to do that. That car could NOT be in the Chase under those circumstances. Sucked, but it was what it was.

Why couldn’t it have been? Bowyer was still in the Chase. And why expand the field just to include Gordon? I mean, it really didn’t matter since Jimmie Johnson was both the real and the Mickey Mouse champion that season, but it was a dumb move. Smokey Yunick rolled over in his grave and Junior Johnson cussed up a storm.

NASCAR is gonna sponsor Alabama athletics. I might be done with NASCAR after Harvick retires. That’s the worst thing they’ve ever done

Logano and Penske agree to long term extension.

Penske is getting it locked down. Blaney just signed long term. I assume Cindric already is. Now Logano.

No silly season news for awhile out of that camp.

Actually, according to what I can find, Cindric doesn't have a contract past 2022.

The following seem to be free agents:
Cindric
Lajoie
Buescher
Kyle Busch
Harrison Burton
Michael McDowell
Gilliland
Ware
Saurez

I'd imagine of this list, the only one that has a good chance of not returning to their present ride is Shrub.

Tim Cindric is the president of Penske racing. Austin Cindric isn’t going anywhere unless he wants out

I bet i can blow yalls minds and tell you who Ryan Blaney's daddy is

I know who Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s dad is, even if the asshole did abandon him and his brother.

"I gotta go race, your mommy'll find a stepdaddy to take care of you, don't worry"

I'd like to see a Kyle Busch announcement, the suspense is killing me.

So, Kurt Busch is gonna miss the start of the playoffs and isn’t requesting a waiver, so he’s out.

That removes a lot of drama for Daytona. New winner will be the only way Blaney or Truex miss out on a chance for a Mickey Mouse “championship”

Pretty well guarantee Joe Gibbs was in Denny Hamlin’ sear for that to give Truex a much better shot.

WOW

Wonder if this means Kyle to the 45 for a year.

Doubt it. Kurt Busch had already talked about retiring after next season, and I assume the 45 will be Reddick’s in 2024, and I doubt Kyle would go for a one year commitment, and I really don’t think he’d want to have Denny Hamlin as his boss
