2022 Season Thread

Just saw the replay, right rearing on the front stretch at a mile and a half track. Year, Larson is a tool and made a douchebag move, but you just can’t do that. You wait for Martinsville to dump him

And if you’re gonna retaliate you make damn sure innocent bystanders don’t get involved. Bell got damage in that

The car is junk because of your stupidity, you fucking jackass.

Well, my dream of Ryan Blaney winning a Mickey Mouse title with no wins just took a hit

Logano wins. Was hoping Briscoe would pull it out, but considering where he ran most of the day, 4th ain’t too bad.

Well, since NASCAR's poster child stopped short of crawling into Larson's car and taking a dump in it he won't get hit that hard. I can name a list of drivers who would be in serious hot water right now if they retaliated on the track like that but NASCAR will talk tough and do very little to Wallace. It is what it is.

I can hear the deck getting shuffled right now...

Matt Kenseth and Kyle Busch are the only drivers I can think of since 2010 that have been punished for on track retaliation, and in their cases, they didn’t take out any innocent bystanders.

Jeff Gordon taking out Clint Bowyer along with two others while Bowyer was still alive for a Mickey Mouse title is the most egregious of any of them and he got off without even a slap on the wrist

Wasn't there one earlier this year? Larson involved maybe?

Maybe, but I can’t remember

Larson lost brakes at one of the road courses and took out Ty Dillon.

Ty Gibbs also retialiated against Ty Dillon on pit road and put the lives of crew members and officials in danger and his punishment was a fine his granddaddy paid and a loss of points in a series he’s not even eligible for points

I feel like if this was any driver besides Bubbles, there would be a suspension. Nascar won't suspend him so no one will claim racism.

Eh, I doubt it. William Byron spun a guy under caution, which is considered a bigger no-no, and they reluctantly punished him for that. They probably wouldn't have if some of the drivers didn't push for it. But then they went back on it immediately when Rick Hendrick opened his wallet up for them, neutering the severity of the punishment. So if they ultimately went with something light for what they consider a more serious offense, I wouldn't expect much here. @Illustrious Potentate is right. They rarely punish for deliberate on track incidents. They should, as basically every other racing series in the world does, but its something NASCAR has traditionally never done. For the longest time, they were lowkey ok with it (never admit it publicly) and would use the incidents to market and promote. They might make a stand here, not because of who was involved or that it was any more egregious than some others in past, but for the fact that at some point, they should probably start acting like a normal racing sanctioning body.

Sure, but Bubba's incident doesn't just involve dumping another driver like Byron did to Hamlin.

Bubba hooked someone at full speed.
Bubba then repeatedly tried to fight Larson.
Bubba then walked across a hot track.
Bubba then put his hands on a safety worker.

And Bubba ended the day of a Playoff contender. That will matter in NASCAR's ruling. They have said before they will consider that type of thing and not take it lightly. A hissy fit at speed by a non-contending driver taking out a contending driver is going to get a severe reaction.

And the disobedience and putting hands on the NASCAR official will play HUGE here. It simply cannot happen.

I expect a 2 race park for Bubba. And he's earned it.

I’d be surprised if he gets anything beyond a fine and points reduction. Do they even put drivers on probation anymore?

I don't know if they do or don't, but this is beyond any probation anyway.

I won't be surprised regardless the direction they take, only because I've learned not to be, given NASCAR's arbitrary and inconsistent approach to penalties based on driver, team, manufacturer, circumstances, etc. They could fine him $5k and wag their finger, or they could park him the rest of the season and dock him 100 driver points and 2,000 owner points....or something in between. None of it would surprise me. If I were in charge for the day, however, it would be 50 driver points, 50 owner points, $250k fine, and a 2 race park.

I’d make him cover the cost to repair Bell’s car and call it a day. Retaliation is fine, but you better make damn sure you don’t collect anyone not involved in the dispute, which is why Matt Kenseth getting suspended but Jeff Gordon getting nothing is one of NASCAR’s biggest black eyes IMO

Ty Dillon to the 77 full time next season.

How does this dude keep getting so many chances in the Cup Series? He sucks. He sucked in the Busch Series too and wasn’t too damn good in the Trucks. Austin might not be the second coming of Jeff Gordon, but he’s thoroughly outperformed Ty at every level

And Sprire isn’t even in the RCR alliance, they get their shit from Hendrick, so it’s not like RC would have a lot of pull there either
