He logs in about 9-10 at night and works until about 1, gobbling up all the great majority of West Coast applications that come in once everyone else has gone home.

Seeing the guy during the day, you wouldn’t even know he has a job. Does everything he wants to do. Goes to all his kids sporting events. Goes to music festivals on a whim all over the world all year long. Then when everybody goes to sleep he works. Interesting guy.

I started new department last december, and being remote slowed learning curve a bit and I don't really know any of my coworkers

I would hate it if I was younger and trying to climb ladder because it is harder to build connections, IMO at least. I have no desire to go back to the office full time

Pre pandemic I was moving to working from home few days month, at one point when i didn't think WFH would stay the norm, I was going to say I'll be working every friday from home. But for years there really has been no point of me going into office, I work on spreadsheets and online tools I can access anywhere.

My day is like 50% meetings at this point. So "at home" work is logging onto zoom a billion times. Hard to get out of the house in-between, can usually get enough time to grab lunch somewhere and bring it back.

I voted Potato Salad because employment, career and people are diverse. I cannot work from home, nor would I want to. My wife can work from home, does it and loves it. It is a good question, but it has many answers.

I bought a Peloton and put it in my office. I will do a 20 min ride between meetings on occasion.

Weirdly, I feel less trapped in the office because I'm bouncing around all over the place to different buildings for meetings and such. And have much better lunch options.

Yeah, see that's the thing. My wife IS home all day. I'd be chasing her around half the day trying to lay pipe rather than focus on working.

I just can't do it. I mean, I could. But I wouldn't have said job for long.
 
Hated it when i had to do at the start of covid, but I was living in a small apt with a roommate. Now that I have a house, I probably wouldn't mind it. But won't ever happen permanently with what I'm doing. Its not impossible, just wouldn't be as efficient.

I have done work from home since the pandemic started. Have only been in the office twice in 2.5 years. Once to clear out my desk during pandemic, and once for meetings recently.

It’s just a different kind of work-life balance I’ve found. I don’t have to make a commute every day, so time back.

And it can be substantially easier or harder based on how hectic the home can be, where the home office is set up, etc. When it’s school breaks or summer it can be quite hectic here. I just learned to take what calls I have outside or elsewhere I can find quiet. Other than that I put my noise canceling headphones on and grind.

It took some getting used to at first. There is more time during the day to address any cleaning or laundry, but you can’t get sucked into it. Like @ill said….I also use the time on calls where I’m just listening to get some things done around the house.

And that’s the big trick….just figuring it out and making some boundaries as needed to stay productive. For some that’s not an easy transition and WFH doesn’t work for them.

It’s worked so well for me I took a role that actually based in Atlanta to make sure I can stay with working from home even if the company policies change.
 
I had to do it briefly during the first covid shut down. Hated it!

The Mrs has been working remotely for going on 3 years now but likes it. IMO this option has weakened the American economy and societal work ethic
