I'm sure Harbaugh has pissed someone off. That part is very clear. Which leads me to believe that Harbaugh isn't complying with some demand from the NCAA. And this delay makes me think the punishment will ultimately be less severe.

Especially now that the NCAA is going out of their way to break their own rules. Seems like Harbaugh is gearing up for a lawsuit if needed.

I ain’t defending Jimmy Jam, but if I’m Michigan I just ignore the NCAA. What are they going to do. Until they are given the ability to truly police NIL (if ever), the NCAA is trying to justify their existence by stomping at little piss ant sized issues while the elephant is walking all over everything.

I agree with you. Historically they were never able to get out of their own way, which was always humorous. But in the current era, they take themselves way more seriously than anyone else does.

If NIL and conference implosions have shown 1 thing, it's the the NCAA is really powerless. The instant they become useless to the Universities, they will dump the NCAA. And I think we're getting close to that point.

Yep. If I’m Michigan…or any other school for that matter…I’d just totally ignore the NCAA.

I actually think that's a bit of what's happening here. Harbaugh is pushing back on something. What the "thing" is, we won't know until they're allowed to comment -- or maybe we'll never know.

NIL took away about 90% of what the NCAA does.

I expect that we will start to see more of these "you practiced too much/sent a kid a text when you weren't supposed to" procedural type investigations as the NCAA tries to remain relevant.

Based on what I have read, this is about impermissible contact and I believe, practices. The NCAA appears to have fucked up by commenting publicly...but it seems pretty clear that a cheeseburger isn't the issue.

It isn't though. Those are just secondary violations that happen all the time. Secondary violations almost never come with punishments. The problem here, and why Harbaugh is being potentially punished, is because when asked about having lunch with an already committed recruit on an unofficial visit during a covid visit ban, harbaugh said he "didn't remember". The NCAA was apparently then given a receipt for a cheeseburger by a former ex staffer that Harbaugh booted (Matt Dudek) who was a director of recruiting, proving harbaugh paid for the cheeseburger. And THAT resulted in a level 1 infraction for lying to the NCAA.

Ah, didn't have timeline, but it proves the point of my post.

NIL took away a lot of what the NCAA used to justify its existence.

So, we'll likely see more of these secondary violation type of investigations hoping that they can get a coach to lie or not remember something so they can then apply a more serious violation to try to prove they're still relevant.
 
Harbough should have sat out the 4 games with an agreement Michigan wouldn't receive any further punishment and called it a day. Now everybody is going to lawyering up and this is going to last several years.

The one thing I do about these cases is you can not believe 90% of the stuff you read in the media. Only 10% is accurate and the other 90% is spun, incorrect, or just made up. So anyone relying on information they get from a journalist or Twitter is an idiot.
 
Seems pretty obvious now that the debate was about the suspension lasting into the B10 schedule

I think it's pretty obvious that Harbaugh wanted ZERO suspension. The University making him self impose probably only creates more tension between him and the university
