I guess it depends on "over". I see Alabama sliding.

I think the biggest factor is that Alabama won off its defense in the heyday. I am not so sure the defensive schemes that Saban used work in modern football. Rule changes like targeting have impacted the game.

Interestingly, Georgia is running Saban's system and is doing it better.

The coaching styles can be seen with both matching up against Tennessee. Saban looked stressed out, angry, and frustrated while Kirby Smart was aggressive, fired up, and energetic. To major contrasts.

It will be curious to see what Saban does in the offseason.

However, he is getting older so I think the sun is getting low in the dynasty. I still get the vibe that Saban has one more championship run left in him though.

Because Kirby stuck to what worked at Bama while Saban tried to change the philosophy too much. We went speed and Agility in our Cochran replacement and we sacrificed Toughness and strength
 
Also what hurt is Kirby, Kiffin, Pruitt, and Sark all took our top GAs and analyst with them when they left to be coordinators or position coaches. Lanning and AJ Millweed being the top 2.

Makes a lot of sense imho. One of the top P5 jobs in CFB, in the SEC, he’s familiar with the region , OR , be a high paid coach at Oregon who (through no fault of their own) will be what amounts to a G5 gig once the LA schools leave.

What hurts is the arrogance of the Bama fanbase. Two last second losses on the road and sky is falling.

I remember when it was first announced that Mark Richt was let go and there was a thread about who the new UGA coach would be and I posted something along the lines of “Alabama will need a new defensive coordinator”

Some Bama fan took that as a shot and started rattling off a bunch of names on the staff that would take over and not miss a beat. I was like “ok dude, I’m just saying who I think the next UGA coach will be”

Bama fans have forgotten what it was like before Saban got there. They deserve a few 8-5 seasons to humble them

I don’t think Lanning is going to Auburn that’s just speculation. But if he were to go to Auburn then Oregon will have zero issue finding a coach because they will officially be the fastest path to a P5 job in the country.

Note: Technically the PAC is a P5 job but only for the next 2 years.

Their was no falloff from Kirby to Pruitt…because Pruitt had been here and knew the Standard. Golding is a fucking Saban experiment to create his next Kirby(young guy who he grooms) and it has failed drastically.

A lot of truth to that. I would also add that McElroy says this Alabama team has no alpha and that is killing leadership. Seems guys think their shit doesn’t stink, getting that NIL and not putting in the work like past years.

I can tell you Brice Young’s mom quit her job two weeks ago and moved back to California which is an indication that Brice is going pro and just going through the motions.

I also heard second hand that defensive starters are bitching that Saban isn’t listening to them (which is ridiculous because he knows more than they ever will) and they are butt hurt over it.

Saban just needs new coordinators that are going kick some ass because I don’t think that is happening.

Pruitt was a dog shit coordinator and an even more dog shit human being. That fact that Saban hired him when a saint like Mark Richt hated Pruitt’s guts tells you that Saban is a lowlife piece of shit too

Saban has just a bunch of yes men on staff. Former players have talked about this year how Kirby, Pruitt, Kiffin, and Sark use to push back and argue with Saban on some stuff Saban wanted to do. Nobody is doing that now and while Saban is the GOAT in recruiting and motivation he is just good at Xs and Os and now he has no one challenging him

Mark Richt was too nice of a person to win. And even then he almost won a Natty in 12 and would have possibly won it in 02 with a CFP. Imagine if he was a win at all cost coach

I've got news for you that Saban is just average in today's game with X's and O's. He beats you with better players period. When he had Sark and Kiffin at OC you saw a massive difference in the X's & O's but without a guy like that running the offense you guys are average in that department but stay in games because of talent.

Malzahn and Freeze had their success by outcoaching Saban and did it enough to prove his X's and O's are nothing special.

He is one of the best defensive minds ever at 90s and 00s offenses. Big problem is with the spread these days you really need to simplify your calls on defense and let your athletes be athletes(which Kirby and Pruitt use to beg him to do all the time) and Saban refuses to do it

Richt’s personality and being a good man kept him on that job longer it probably should have. Not many coaches would have survived an 8-5 2009, a 6-7 2010 and an 0-2 start in 2011, especially after the preseason number one 2008 team got blown out by Bama and Florida and lost to GT.

Being 3 decades behind is like hiring a coach in the 90s that is an expert on defending the wishbone. Face it the X's and O's aren't there.

Just for the record, Pruitt is a full-blown idiot and you give that guy way too much credit for Kirby's work.
