Saban takes a MASSIVE shot at Jimbo.

I'm definitely trolling with facts....but facts they remain.

UT is a mess and aTm could be squandering the huge opportunity to pull the best students, profs and grants in Tejas.
Jexas is going to have the leg up because they have more funding, in the state capital, and also have great colleges that people seek out. I have no desire to have a pissing match with the school to see which is better because both them and A&M have the things they are great at.
So you have to settle the pissing match via sports. :suds:

OU really needs to stop being so poor!
I'm curious. Do you keep saying that just to say it or do you have some basis for the repeat comments? If you do the research, OU is somewhere around #5 or #6 in the country in athletic revenue. We've spent about $500 Million on improvements to the stadiums, field house, etc. over the past few years and we are getting ready to spend a bunch more to upgrade to SEC standards (which is being paid for by donors). Our donor network is excellent both on the academic and athletic sides. The debt that OU has was incurred primarily under David Boren for capital improvements. Is this just you having some fun at our expense or do you really think OU is "so poor"?

And that is EXACTLY why a school that spends an exorbitant amount of money to buy championships is destined to get turned in at some point and then they will be crying "But you hate us only because we are rich". And the other 98% of teams will secretly be pulling for them to get hammered. It's gonna happen. And then the rich school will start disclosing stuff about other schools and it will be Popcorn Time. However, the root cause of that clusterfvck will be the insane spending some schools can afford and others can't.
I tell you what I am worried about and that's history.

1. What happened to the old Southwest Conference could potentially happen today also.
2. When Mike Slive took over the SEC relations between schools were at a low point and Mike told everyone that enough was enough and that all beefs were to go through the conference office and NO one was to talk SEC laundry publically. The result was that SEC programs getting on probation went way down and the league started supporting the schools and helping them navigate issues. Now all of that is starting to unwind. That is EXACTLY why Sankey is calling out both Saban and Jimbo and trust me the private conversations are going to be even tougher. People think Saban is untouchable but there are unwritten rules you can't/shouldn't break and those rules have protected the conference.

That being said I think Saban made a misstep and he wasn't trying to be vindictive and I think his true purpose was to encourage reform in the NIL realm which needs to happen. He made a mistake and Jimbo doubled down on it so this will take a while to cool.

In the short term, I see all this being good for Auburn because all the hate and vindictiveness of the Alabama boosters is going to be focused on aTm and that is where they will be stirring the pot. Some of Auburn's best years were when those same boosters focused all their energy on Tennessee for turning them into the NCAA and we got a very nice decade out of that.

This shit will always be in the shadows but the more it gets pulled out into the open the more issues it is going to cause.

Little of both. Why aren't you in the SEC already? I heard both you and Jexas wanted in sooner than the plan but the exit fees were tripping OU up. I know Jexas can afford it, so they must not be the issue.

All trouble points to the midget in Tuscaloosa. If he will STFU like every other SEC coach has done there wouldn't be these problems.

UTjr is a mess.. 6 mil to a QB that is compared to DJ Ugalaylay?? pssstttt

Because they are behind in NIL.. In fact, in recruiting that's the word.. prospects are interested but as they begin listening to other programs, they realize that these other schools have better systems in place for them to make money off their name

You forgot to blame UT

That is short-sighted because I promise you the University of Alabama system is infinitely bigger and gets more funding than Auburn but if you look at academic rankings, quality of enrollment, and overall reputation Auburn is killing it. The main reason for this is that Auburn Alumni always give to the school first in fact it is a bit of a challenge for the athletic department because the majority of big donors give to academics (as they should).

aTm is a fantastic school academically and @JuiceTheGator is right you guys could surpass Texas if that was your focus.

The subtle word around the Oklahoma people is we don't actually want to move ASAP. Seems the $$ is a minor factor but we've come into more revenue than was expected even a year ago so that isn't really the hangup. (Keep in mind that Joe Castiglione, our AD, is kind of a tightwad and has a great record at controlling costs so OU doesn't waste a lot of money so every dollar spent is stretched as far as possible.) Everyone wants to be positioned before the jump is made so the odds of being immediately successful are improved. The football program is obviously in a transition. And other sports are working overtime to get their act together even better. This is helluva jump for Oklahoma. If we can pull off some immediate success in the SEC it will do wonders for the alumni and fan's morale.

Which one?

I'm sure he and Sanky are having that conversation as is Jimbo. They are both getting put on notice.

Lol…he took a team full of Mike Shula players and was 1 quarter away from playing for the National Title in 2008. Won it in 09 when over half the starters were Shulas.

He was hypocritical Wednesday night but he wasn’t whining and he wasn’t wrong.

And I can tell you if not for sports I wouldn't know Auburn exists. Not being shitty, that's the truth. Probably a big deal closer to the campus but can't think of a reason I would know them outside of sports.

For what A&M is good at we have already passed Jexas, so I don't worry about the academics. There is plenty of money for the school even if alumni don't donate to the academic side (but we do, a lot). I honestly believe that people have no clue how much money is donated and spent on these two schools in Texas. Y'all see things like this latest $200M sports complex and assume that is our entire budget when its not even close. The 12th Man Foundation brought in $162M in just 2020 (skipped the latest annual report due to COVID)

I’m not worried about Alabama footballs future. Our boosters will gladly pay what it takes. I’m more worried about Alabama basketball when it comes to NIL. Our boosters won’t give a shit about that. Auburn offered 5* Julian Phillips $1M and lost him to Tennessee because they offered $2M dollars. I don’t ever see our donors even paying $500k for a basketball player.

Apparently, Saban was talking to a room full of boosters during basically what amounts to a fundraiser and someone in the room recorded it and shared it with reporters. Saban never intended for this to go national, he was rallying the boosters for fundraising.

Came back to bite him in the ass.

Wish your baseball team could beat the freaking hogs today or tomorrow! That's where y'all need to spend.

You talk as though $30M from a massive alumni network is anything more than a drop in the bucket. A&M has been on an upward trend on the academic side for the last 20 years. We already have world renowned engineering and agriculture/environmental programs and the business school isn't anything to scoff at.
Spending money on things that get national coverage isn't mutually exclusive to bettering the academic program as well.

Yep. A drop in the bucket. Hell. Fertilla puts out a shit product on the court but can find 50 mill to donate to UH

He's a stupid boomer. EVERYTHING is recorded these days, especially in a room with that many people. Everything can and will go viral. I bet Riley would have understood this.

You must be listening to the Longhorn people when you say that because it's simply not accurate. OU's gone above and beyond to set things up for the NIL to be a major factor. I've been bugged by those people as well as others I know to get behind their efforts. What is true is Venables and Castiglione are skeptical that going whole hog with the NIL thing is smart. They believe it's a good idea but the amount spent is important to them. Another issue is Venables is skeptical of the transfer portal being used to raid other programs willy nilly. He has said numerous times he has an issue with someone not trying to make their Juniors and Seniors feel as welcome to a program as the hot shots in the transfer portal. But to answer your question, OU will spend plenty.
