This is the year

I think they are saying he can't win a NC at Oregon, not that he can't win a national title ever.

I’m saying he can’t win one this year. I suppose it’s possible he improves in the coming years, but it’s much harder to predict not knowing what future Oregon teams will look like and if he will have another QB the caliber of Nix.

I think they are saying he can't win a NC at Oregon, not that he can't win a national title ever. There is a reason coaches go to Oregon and then leave for other jobs.

Oregon is a great program, but they aren't one of those programs where head coaches are trying to settle in at.
I think they call that a stepping-stone school…

Jonathan Smith said Washington is really good and it’s no fluke they’re undefeated. By OD logic, just give us the title now.

Pretty sure Oregon will have another Bo Nix and then some. They have had multiple QBs in the Heisman running and of course a winner. They were a questionable call away on a walk off FG against Auburn, been in the NC game, hell even finished 2nd way back in 01, of course he CAN not saying WILL win one at Oregon, they have the facilities, NIL, and tons of support.

They are recruiting at the same level as many of the other title contenders.

No they aren't. The elite programs have such an enormous recruiting advantage, it isn't even funny. Ohio State has signed more 5 star recruits than the entire B1G conference combined. I'm a Michigan fan and I can say without hesitation, Michigan doesn't recruit at the same level as the elite programs right now. The Bama's, the Georgia's, the Ohio State's. Hell -- you can add LSU, Texas, Clemson, etc.

2019-2023 -- Oregon has signed 6 five star recruits.

Bama has signed 26 five star recruits in that same time period.
Georgia has signed 23 five star recruits in that time period.
Ohio State has signed 18 five star recruits in that time period.

If you want to go to top 100 recruits over that time span -- it looks even worse.

Too many fans look at the ranking where they finish in recruiting and say -- we finished 8th or 10th or 13th and think -- we recruit like the top programs. You don't though. The difference between a top 5 recruiting class and a top 10 recruiting class is HUGE. Michigan doesn't either, so you understand, I'm not being hard on Oregon.

Well Oregon is recruiting better than Michigan, that's for sure.

Disagree. If they were going to do that (and they could make a legit argument to do that), they could do that right now. All of that is true today. If they still rank Oregon over Texas, the committee is telling you that they think Oregon is better and they don't care what the resumes say. That won't change if Oregon beats Oregon State and Washington.
Bama would have a win over UGA if they were in consideration.

Let's just whip that elephant ass in 2 weeks and end the discussion.

Yeah, I follow recruiting way too closely and I agree with you. I say that as a team that used to be in the top 5-10 all the time under Richt and would get beat by Bama.

To win consistently at the highest levels you have to have the following:

1. Depth - this is the number one thing.
2. Great LOS on both sides of the ball - this is 1a, really.
3. Very good to elite QB play, with decent playmakers (meaning you don't have to have the best WR/TE/TBs, just really good ones). AS an example, how many UGA RBs or WRs can you name on our team this year? Sure, Bowers. How many others?
4. Coaching that at worst doesn't lose the game for you.

When looking at this and recruiting, you have to have:

1. 4 straight years of top 5 classes, preferably top 3.
2. Consistent Top 10 won't cut it unless you have really good No. 3 above - elite QB play and playmakers. Think Clemson, FSU, and Auburn NCs.
3. Balanced classes (think ATM as the counterpoint), and luck to keep the classes together (again think ATM and UGA 2018 as counterpoints), and great roster management.
4. Great portal use - it needs to complement your high school recruiting. If you are doing it right, you will lose players who were top recruits who can't get PT, or don't pan out. The portal replaces them and fills in the cracks.

No you aren't. If anything, you recruit similar to what Michigan does. That isn't a good thing though, as Michigan falls under the category of those teams outside the top 5,

Feel free to post the current and last seasons recruiting rankings.

Oregon is demonstrably better

Bo Nix can put up all the big numbers he wants to, but at the end of the day, he’s still the same Bo Pix he’s always been. He just needs UGA to bring it out of him

Oregon is demonstrably better
2020. Michigan was 10. Oregon was 12.
2021. Michigan was 12. Oregon was 6.
2022. Michigan was 8. Oregon was 13.
2023. Michigan was 15. Oregon was 9.

So as I said. They recruit very much the same and also as I said, Michigan will only ever win a national title again if the stars align, all the balls bounce our way and we get the calls.

Michigan will never have more talent than the Alabama's, the Georgia's, the Ohio State's, etc. So we have to be better coached, more disciplined and play mistake free. It is why Michigan fans love Ryan Day. We've beat them the last two years being more physical and out coaching them. If you gave Urban Meyer the same OSU team the last two years -- UM doesn't win both games.

I said this season and last.

Oregon is well ahead of Michigan.
