Twelve Kitchen Cabinets

Well, the timing worked out with the 'game delay', they were gonna get built anyway I just thought a bit later than sooner.

I just got them primed yesterday. When I prime paint a cabinet I cover every surface but when I top coat I only paint the exposed surfaces. And the top coat glides over the primer. Priming unpainted wood takes more effort and time and so If it doesn't rain I should be able to get two top coats on today.
 
Fuck! I just peeked outside and it's raining right now! But I am prepared! I did this last night when I finished priming.

That's both cabinets under that plastic.
 
I got three top coats on today. Good day in the shop! (on the deck)

I will start on the eight doors in the morning and each cabinet will get a shelf. I think I can get all that completed in four days but things always take me longer than I think they will.

There is zero percent chance of rain overnight so I left 'em sit as is! Look how my wheelchair wheels tore up that soggy cardboard. I still got some paint on the deck floor and deck furniture.

My Lady Hag has been gone since Thursday and when she comes home tomorrow she might not be too pleased with the paint mess I made but if she gets too bent I will pull my clumsy card and show it to her with my right hand! hehehe!

I maneuvered them big long boxes all by my lonesome! I'm a clumsy bad ass! Not the kind of bad ass that can beat ya up but the kind that don't quit! But my god damn sliffard won't stay on! Other than the sliffard situation, all is going great. The Tile Wizard is s'posed to show on Tuesday, finkers crossed!

You just let her know you did all this. Touching up the deck and refinishing (?) the furniture is nothing.
 
Man alive did I ever screw up! I got three doors put together today before I realized they were 5" too wide. A math error due to being distracted... by the Guide Bear tearing it up at the Tour de France!

But yeah, now I need enough more material for three more doors. On the other five doors still unassembled, those will be an easy enough fix by trimming the rails to the correct width.

I will be able to use those three mistake doors on a future project, I will make sure of it!

Also the Tile Wizard wasn't ready to start today. Hopefully later this week.

Too wide doesn’t seem like a problem. Too narrow would be. You can’t just trim those three down and be good?

That's a good idea but the inset plywood panels are also glued in and if that 1/4" ply gets wet it will swell like a sponge and the plys separate and it's ruined.

Well, if I cut the door to the correct width, I lose all the mortise-tenon joints on the side that got cut. It will be easy enough to make three new doors, I only need about 9' of 1x3" poplar to make six new rails.

And anyway, the three mistake doors will work perfect on my next project. I need to build a stand just under 8' long and so I will just need to make one additional door for that stand to have four doors. It's a super heavy duty stand but the outside will look just like my cabinets... Beautiful!

I was pissed off at first but then I just got bummed, all the wind got out of my sails. But after a break I put four of the correct size doors together and I will put the other four together tomorrow and get them ready to paint. I'm not working tonight. I like how this project is ending though. I will have those long living room cabinets done before the kitchen is complete and I like that.

So yeah, this thread will be done in a couple weeks. I certainly appreciate how you guys followed along, it helped keep me inspired!

I have been there, with regards to things being messed up on a project. I do the same thing. Get pissed, then start getting down thinking about possible repairs, then just deciding what the fuck I am going to do about it. Then I usually get fired up and do it right.
It's just a little time and money, but when you get to a point, it can be discouraging.

If it's 5 inches too big, it shouldn't matter as all of them would have to be trimmed anyway. You can control the moisture by using wet towels. Not sure if you knew what I meant. I didn't mean to float them in water.

Anyway, it sounds like you have it figured out, better than I have a clue as to who, or what the fuck, a guide bear is. Keep grinding

Ahhhh Peter is giving the guide bear affirmation.
@ukfanfrombirth(cali cat) look at Peter being sweet and not an asshole. We might never see this again.

Yep, I will use the mistake doors on my next project making that portion of the next project a fast finish!

And I always appreciate any advice you give, there is no substitute for experience and you have a lot of different skills for offering advice.

One thing I wanted to mention though, about soaking the glue soft, I'm using Tite Bond II and it is exterior rated and very resistant to moisture. Once it dries, forget about it, the wood fibers will break before that glue fails.
