What are you reading?

about 3/4 through The Priory of the Orange Tree and really enjoying it. I don't think it will be the longest book I read this year at 848 pages

I see all the hype on it but get so turned off when authors try to push some agenda, especially when it's LGBTQIA+. (n)

There is a lesbian couple...I don't think there is any sort of agenda though.

Okay, I read a review that led me to believe it was woven throughout and it was more than just lesbianism.
there might be a gay male character but it isn't clear...but that's it.

there is definitely a sense where women hold the power in this world, which isn't that big a deal. Men are just kind of muscle while women rule and whatnot.

I wouldn't say there is anything overly "woke" about it though.

now something like The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune...that was a little too "woke" for me...

About halfway through "Sellout", by Dan Ozzi.

Interesting as hell. Gives a little bit of the business side, focuses more on the artists, though. I found a few of these bands either right at the time they fell apart or well after (only found Jawbreaker well after they dissolved, started listening to At the Drive-In right as they folded). Enjoying it a lot. Will be interested to get to the chapters on Against Me! and Rise Against. Saw them both touring with Anti-Flag (who apparently has a brief add-in to the book) at a tiny club outside of Chapel Hill almost 20 years ago.

Started Hyperion by Dan Simmons last week.

Always discussed as the best science fiction book written.

sorry @HammerDown I kind of flaked on our reading club and haven't picked up The Eye of the World yet.

I am doing a decent job of working down the books I own though.

finished Hyperion

currently reading The Arm of the Sphinx by Josiah Bancroft

Just finished "After the Fall"

I liked Kitchen Confidential but I am having a hard time with his second one...maybe it's because he isn't around anymore but I think it's because it is not as good a book

Fiction only for me.

I just finished a Brad Meltzer effort called The Millionaires. Interesting plotline.

I'm on a non-fiction kick right now myself. Simultaneously reading "A Wicked War" by Amy Greenberg (about the 1846 War between Mexico and the US) and "El Norte" by Carrie Gibson (a larger history of the Spanish in North America).

finishing up Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy...what a bloody fucking book.

also reading The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. Long ass book but it is good.

I am looking forward to getting back to some kind of fantasy or science fiction.

Still on my Spanish America kick. In the middle of "Blood and Fire" by T.R. Fehrenbach

Life by Keith Richards

Interesting look at life and times of a Roch and Roll legend.
