I always wondered if there was any mechanism to actually force a player to throw it in bounds. Not enough to ever look it up though.
I’m not sure it’s the same at this level, or the same at any level anymore, but playing as a kid the ref could foul the delay and give the other team the throw in. If it’s chronic I have seen the ref give a yellow.

Yes. The Iran game is more important than today. Could win today and lose to Iran and be out. Iran game is must win or tie (if they win today). If USA ties today and ties Iran they still go through with goal differential. I mean your destiny lies in beating Iran. Things could be worse. Ask Germany. They need to beat Spain.

I agree. Kind of fluky and had the advantage of 10 men and a backup goaltender. USA with 11 men and their starting goalie would not be same situation. The second goal Wales opening up and giving up defense to get tieing goal. Wales also tied the USA on a stupid penalty. Without that USA would have won 1-0. So I would say USA and Iran are pretty even.
This takes the shock off seeing a team we need to probably beat just beat the team we drew with. Flukes all around.
